A reusable thermal ink sheet used for thermal printing has a thermal ink composition layer formed on a substrate. The thermal ink composition is a mixture of ink material and filler. The ink material includes a coloring agent and a low temperature melting compound which is a solid at room temperature and is melted during thermal printing in response to a printing image to be transferred. The low temperature melting compound contains a urethane compound as a base material and additive materials as viscosity modulators thereof which lower the viscosity of the ink material at printing temperature. The additive materials contain at least one material selected from the group consisting of fatty acid compounds, fatty acid amide compounds and ester compounds. The improved ink sheet assures a high quality printing image is transferred to a plain paper having a rough surface when thermal printing occurs ten times or more. In addition, ghost images are not formed and background noise is eliminated. Further, a plasticizer is added to the ink material described above, thereby improving the thermal printing ability at a low temperature.

An electrophotographic multi-layered photosensitive member having a top layer of hydrogenated amorphous silicon carbide and the method for forming the top layer are provided. The hydrogenated amorphous silicon carbide has an atomic ratio of carbon to carbon plus silicon C/(Si+C) ranging from 0.17 to 0.47 and a ratio of the number of hydrogen atoms bonded to a silicon atom per silicon atom, to number of hydrogen atoms bonded to a carbon atom per carbon atom, {(Si--H)/Si}/{(C--H)/C}, ranging from 0.3 to 1.0. The top layer is formed on a photosensitive member of hydrogenated amorphous silicon by employing a glow discharge CVD method. The gaseous mixture composed of disilane (Si.sub.2 H.sub.6) and propane (C.sub.3 H.sub.8) mixed with a mol ratio expressed as C.sub.3 H.sub.8 /(Si.sub.2 H.sub.6 +C.sub.3 H.sub.8) ranging from 0.2 to 0.6 is used. Another gaseous mixture is also used with an improved result. The mixture comprises disilane (Si.sub.2 H.sub.6) gas, propane (C.sub.3 H.sub.8) gas, and hydrogen (H.sub.2) gas, the mixing mol ratio of the propane gas to the disilane gas expressed as C.sub.3 H.sub.8 /(Si.sub.2 H.sub.6 +C.sub.3 H.sub.8) ranging from 02 to 0.7, and the mixing mol ratio of the hydrogen gas to the remaining gas, H.sub.2 /(Si.sub.2 H.sub.6 +C.sub.3 H.sub.8), ranging from 1 to 10.

A water-based pigment-type ink containing at least water, a pigment and a dispersant, the pigment particles having an average particle diameter of not larger than 0.1 .mu.m, the weight ratio of the pigment to the dispersant being from 1.2 to 5. The water-based pigment-type ink exhibits more excellent color tone and chroma, by adding the fluorescent pigment in an amount of from 0.1% by weight to 3% by weight with respect to the amount of the ink. Furthermore, the water-based pigment-type ink comprises at least a pigment, a high-molecular dispersant, a surfactant and water, the pigment particles having an average particle diameter of not larger than 80 nm, a maximum particle diameter not being larger than 0.1 .mu.m, the high-molecular dispersant being added in an amount of from 3% by weight to 20% by weight with respect to the amount of the ink, and the surfactant being added in an amount of from 2% by weight to 4% by weight with respect to the amount of the ink.
