The present invention relates to a novel 2-phenylpyridine derivative or a salt thereof, wherein the pyridine ring is substituted with a carboxyl group or the like and the benzene ring has an electron-withdrawing group such as a cyano group and an electron-donating group such as a substituted alkoxy group at the same time.Since the compound of the invention has good xanthine oxidase-inhibitory action and uric acid-lowering action and does not have a structure derived from nucleic acid, the compound has advantages of high safety and excellent effects as compared with conventional compounds and is useful as a therapeutic or preventive agent for hyperuricemia, gout, inflammatory bowel diseases, diabetic kidney diseases, diabetic retinopathy, or the like.

The invention relates to a novel amide derivative which is an N-({[4-(substituted thiazol-4-yl)phenyl]carbamoyl}methyl)amide derivative having a characteristic in that an aryl or heteroaryl group as an aromatic ring group is directly substituted on the N atom of amido group. Since said amide derivative has excellent anti-herpesvirus action, it is useful as medicaments and antiviral agents, particularly as preventive or therapeutic agents for various diseases accompanied by Herpesviridae virus infections, illustratively, varicella (chickenpox) accompanied by varicella zoster virus infection, shingles accompanied by the recurrent infection of latent varicella zoster virus, labial herpes and herpes encephalitis accompanied by HSV-1 infection, genital herpes accompanied by HSV-2 and the like various herpesvirus infections.

To provide a seam welding apparatus and a seam welding method that may operate at a low pressure to obtain a suitable overlapped alignment amount. In the seam welding apparatus, a trailing plate clamp moving means is provided with link mechanisms for overlapping and aligning a leading end of a trailing plate with a trailing end of a leading plate and a link drive source for operating the link mechanisms under an extended condition. The link mechanisms are arranged in parallel along both side edges of the trailing plate. The pair of link mechanisms are connected to a link drive source to form a parallel link mechanism assembled through a coupling link. Also, a movable portion of the leading plate clamp means has a tilt pivot. This tilt pivot is adapted to be movable so that the overlapped alignment amount may be adjusted.

A lawn mower comprising a cutting unit disposed between front and rear wheels, a grass discharge duct extending rearwardly from the cutting unit, and a grass collecting container defining a top opening for receiving grass clippings sent through the discharge duct. The grass collecting container includes a mouthpiece extending along peripheries of the top opening to rest on a U-shaped support frame mounted at a rear end of the mower. The mouthpiece is connected to the support frame by a projection and bore engagement. The support frame includes a holder defining an upwardly opening recess, and the container has a cover defining a downwardly opening recess at a position opposed to the holder. The two recesses define an opening for receiving a rear end of the grass discharge duct. The grass discharge duct includes an annular engagement portion extending peripherally of the rear end thereof for engagement with inner edges of the two recesses.

The material comprises a support having thereon at least one silver halide emulsion layer in which said silver halide emulsion layer or other hydrophilic colloid layer contains at least one hydrazine derivative, at least one cationic dye selected from a cyanine dye, a hemicyanine dye and a rhodacyanine dye, and L-ascorbic acid, and has photographic characteristics of giving very high contrast of over 10 in .gamma., giving high practical Dmax and sensitivity, and causing less black peppers using a stable developer and having optimum spectral sensitivity for spectral energy distributions of various light sources.
