    摘要: A coupling for connecting a cylinder valve on an LPG tank to the inlet of a pressure regulator for gas consuming equipment comprises a nipple having an upstream end for connection with the cylinder valve and a downstream end for connection with the pressure regulator, and a plastic coupling nut for connecting the nipple to the cylinder valve. The end wall of the coupling nut has a metal heat transfer washer on the inner side thereof, and a pressure responsive flexible shutoff valve plate is provided in the nipple passageway. The shutoff valve plate closes the passageway in response to a pressure differential thereacross of no more than 15 psi, and the end wall of the coupling nut and the heat transfer washer are responsive to a temperature of between 240° F. and 300° F. to release the nipple for displacement away from the cylinder valve in the direction downstream of the nipple.

    摘要: Portable emergency breathing apparatus is disclosed which is comprised of a unitary, generally flat manifold having opposite ends and top and bottom sides and a manifold passageway between the opposite ends. Three parallel, laterally juxtaposed compressed gas containers are mounted on the bottom side of the manifold by means of coupling components extending through the manifold from the top side and into internally threaded necks of the containers. Each of the coupling components provides flow communication between the interior of the corresponding container and the manifold passageway, and a shut-off and pressure reducing valve assembly is mounted on the manifold between two of the containers. The valve assembly has upper and lower portions respectively adjacent the top and bottom sides of the manifold with the lower portion disposed in the space between the necks of the two adjacent containers. The valve assembly controls the flow of gas from the containers to a breathing hose connected to an outlet passageway of the valve assembly and leading to a hood or mask worn by the user of the apparatus.

    摘要: A wheel and axle assembly is provided for a vehicle having on onboard system for controlling the pressure of air in a tire of the vehicle. The assembly comprises a stationary axle housing and a rotatable hub which carries the vehicle tire and which is mounted on the axle housing for rotation thereabout by first and second axially spaced bearing units each having inner and outer races and tapered roller bearings therebetween. Axially spaced first and second seal assemblies are provided between the axle housing and hub to provide a sealed air chamber therebetween, and one of the bearing units is in the air chamber adjacent the first seal assembly which is connected to a source of air under pressure on the vehicle. The flow path extends through the air chamber and includes a port in the hub opening into the chamber and connected in flow communication with the vehicle tire. The seal arrangement relative to the one bearing unit provides for the flow path for air between the onboard system and the vehicle tire to include the spaces between the bearing elements and the inner and outer bearing races of the one bearing unit.

    摘要: A vehicle wheel assembly carrying a pneumatic tire includes a hub rotatably mounted on a fixed axle component and provided with an internal air flow passageway. One end of the passageway communicates with the interior of the tire through a pneumatically actuated check valve, and the other end of the passageway is adapted to be connected to an air pressure control system carried by the vehicle. The latter connection is through a sealing arrangement between the rotating hub and fixed axle component and which includes a displaceable seal on the fixed axle component normally maintained out of contact with the rotatable hub. The displaceable seal is adapted to be moved into engagement with the hub by air under pressure from the air pressure control system after which the vehicle tire can be inflated, deflated or checked for pressure through the operation of appropriate controls in the air pressure control system.

    摘要: A lightweight portable, self-contained, closed-type breathing apparatus comprises an oxygen pressure cylinder having connected thereto manually actuated oxygen flow control means. Included is a carbon dioxide scrubber having connected thereto breathing means including check valves and a breathing tube. A flexible breathing bag is provided, as are means for mounting the oxygen cylinder, the flow control means, the scrubber and check valves in fixed mutual relationship, with the oxygen cylinder and scrubber disposed within the breathing bag. The flow control means is constructed upon actuation, to meter flow of oxygen from the cylinder into the breathing bag. The check valves cause a user's exhaled breath to pass through the scrubber before entering the breathing bag, while causing a user to inhale directly from the breathing bag, bypassing the scrubber. An external canister protects the bag from accidental damage.

    摘要: Portable emergency breathing apparatus is disclosed which is comprised of a compressed breathing gas container having a housing mounted on the open end thereof which supports a pressure gauge, a pressure reducing valve assembly, and burst valve, fill valve and needle valve components. The pressure reducing valve controls the flow of breathing gas from the container to a breathing hose attached to the housing and leading to a face mask or hood worn by the user. The housing has a flat axially outer end relative to the container and a radially outer periphery which is within the cylindrical plane of the side wall of the container, and the housing is structured for mounting on the container so as to optimize compactness of the apparatus and protection of the pressure gauge and the pressure reducing, burst, fill and needle valves from damage during storage and use. A modification of the housing enables the apparatus to include two or more compressed breathing gas containers in side-by-side relationship, thus to increase the duration of use of the apparatus. Another modification of the housing enables the apparatus to be supported on the body of a user through waist and/or shoulder straps.
