摘要： A brake for a caster wheel wherein the anchor is attached to the caster axle at its bottom end and is secured from rotational movement along the inside of one of the legs of the caster fork. The brake shoe comprises a stiffened tire engaging shoe part and an integral, flexible, resilient carrier part which is attached to the anchor near the axle, is resiliently biased against the anchor, is flexible in the plane of the axle and is adapted to be flexed to bring the shoe part into braking contact with the tire of the caster wheel. Brake actuating means is carried by the anchor near the rim of the wheel and is fulcrumed to flex the carrier and force the shoe into braking contact with the tire of the wheel.

摘要： A seat assembly includes a seat frame, a back frame 320 defining a back plane pivotally connected to the seat frame at a pivot joint, a back support 310 slideably secured to the back frame, and a back support adjusting mechanism. The back support adjusting mechanism includes a first linking member 355 coupling the back support to the seat frame and pivotable about the pivot axis, and a first slide member 351 slideably supported by the back frame and operatively connected to the first linking member. A second slide member 354a is affixed to the back support and slideably supported by the back frame. A second linking member 352 operatively connects the first and second slide members. Pivoting movement of the back frame from the upright position to the reclined position slides the first slide member away from the pivot axis, causing the second linking member to slide the back support toward the pivot axis.

摘要： In one embodiment, a control system for a power wheelchair is provided allowing a user to change the type of input control device throughout a day, week, month, and/or year as their physical and/or mental condition changes. This includes changing input controls from proportional to switch-type devices. A user may start the day when they are not tired with a proportional input control device like a proportional joystick. Then, as the day progresses and the user begins to experience fatigue or exhaustion, the user can change to a switch-type control device requiring less control and dexterity (e.g., less strength and energy) to effectively control the power wheelchair. The user can also start the day with a 4, 3, or 2 switch direction input control and later change to a single switch input control device with scanning. Other combinations are also possible.

摘要： A footrest and legrest assembly for an invalid''s chair or wheelchair that is storable within the chair. A footrest is adjustably mounted on a supporting frame which is slidably and telescopically mounted in horizontal tubular elements of the chair and is movable fore and aft relative to the front of the chair. The legrest is pivotally and frictionally mounted on a Ushaped support member which is slidably mounted independently of the footrest on the supporting frame and is movable above the footrest toward or away from the front of the chair when the frame is extended forwardly of the chair. Storage of the legrest under the seat of the chair is provided when use of the footrest only is desired. Storage of both the footrest and the legrest under the seat of the chair is provided when the supporting frame with the U-shaped support and legrest is pushed to its rearmost position. A one-way, spring latch for telescoping tubes is provided to secure the frame from sliding forwardly from its storage position out of the horizontal tubes of the chair and to limit its forward movement iin working position. The latch permits free inward movement of the assembly into storage under the seat.

摘要： A safety bed rail assembly for beds including a bed rail movable from an upright guarding position along one side of a bed to a stored position beneath the bed. The bed rail assembly includes at least one collapsible bed rail and a pair of support members for the bed rail adapted to be mounted beneath the bed to extend transversely thereof. Pivotal connecting means extends between the bed rail and the support means and is pivotally connected to each for pivotal movement in a horizontal plane parallel to the bed.
