摘要: A transparent thermoformed high barrier plastic bottle is provided for use in storing food and beverages, personal care products, health care products, and other applications that require excellent transparency and barrier properties. The transparent thermoformed high barrier plastic bottle includes first and second outer layers formed using a transparent polyester or polyester copolymer; an inner nanolayer sequence including a plurality of nanolayers a) including ethylene vinyl alcohol, alternating with nanolayers b) including at least one of ethylene ethyl acrylate, low density polyethylene and linear low density polyethylene, each of the nanolayers b) having a degree of crystallinity less than about 45%; and adhesive layers between each of the two outer layers and the inner nanolayer sequence. A method for producing a transparent thermoformed high barrier plastic bottle is also provided.

摘要: A transparent multilayer coextruded heat shrinkable barrier film is useful for high-value packaging applications such as food and medical device packaging. The transparent multilayer coextruded heat shrinkable barrier film includes first and second outer layers formed using a transparent polyester or polyester copolymer; an inner nanolayer sequence including a plurality of nanolayers a) including ethylene vinyl alcohol, alternating with nanolayers b) including at least one of ethylene ethyl acrylate, low density polyethylene and linear low density polyethylene, each of the nanolayers b) having a degree of crystallinity less than about 45%; and adhesive layers between each of the two outer layers and the inner nanolayer sequence. The film has a light transmittance of at least about 80% and a heat shrunk of at least about ten percent in at least one direction.

摘要: A modular disk coextrusion die is formed of a plurality of cells stacked together. Each cell includes a symmetrical arrangement of thin annular disks, including a central routing disk and two distribution disks on both sides of the central routing disk. The distribution disks are oriented so that their respective distribution inlet openings oppose each other by about 180 degrees. The symmetrical arrangement permits each cell to process the melt streams in a manner that provides enhanced layer uniformity and bubble stability. By stacking several cells, blown films having up to several hundred layers can be made using twelve, twenty-four or more polymer melt streams. Complex films made from the modular disk coextrusion die are also provided.

摘要: Polymeric, thin oriented films can be made by use of a combination of a hot blown process and a blown bubble process, i.e. a double bubble process. The resulting film has use in replacing PVC for in store stretch wrap applications. Very low density polyethylene, VLDPE, is an especially preferred material for this process. It may be used as a monolayer, or as one layer of a multilayer structure. In practicing the invention, the polymer is extruded and hot blown, and heated to a temperature above its orientation temperature. This heating can be accomplished by the use of a heated liquid reservoir or sock disposed at the lower end of the primary bubble, inside the bubble. The hot blown heated film is then passed through a first set of pinch rolls, re-inflated into a blown bubble, and collapsed at a second set of pinch rolls. Thin, tough and elastic packaging materials are obtained by this process.

The wetted film can be more easily oriented to produce a shrinkable film.

摘要: A seamless, bone puncture resistant bag is provided that representatively includes a length of lay-flat seamless tubular film folded to a double lay-flat configuration and having all adjacent film surfaces interfacially bonded, respectively, except at one outermost interface. The configuration thus forms a seamless envelope with one face thickened integrally to triple thickness. In a less preferred mode, a similarly reinforced bag is provided but which has either an end-seal or side-seals. Associated methods for making such bags are also provided.

摘要: A forming web comprises a first extruded polymeric film oriented to substantially the same extent in both the longitudinal and machine directions. Alternately, a high molecular weight crystalline polyolefin is blown at least to a blow-up ratio sufficient to orient the film to substantially the same extent in both the longitudinal and machine directions. A second extruded polymeric film including a layer of an oxygen barrier polymeric material may be laminated to the first film.
