In the structuring process, ink-attracting regions and ink-repelling regions are generated. Ink that adheres to the ink-attracting regions and that is not absorbed by the ink-repelling regions is applied on the surface. The applied ink is transferred onto the carrier material. Before a new structure process on the same surface of the print carrier, the surface is cleaned and recoated with said layer. Before the application of said layer, a wetting-aiding substance is applied with a molecular layer thickness. A surfactant with hydrophilic molecule sections is used as the wetting-aiding substance.

A mosaic ink recorder having a number of outlet nozzles in a nozzle plate for discharging ink droplets on a recording media has a screen with apertures therein which are disposed in groups in registry with the outlet nozzles, the apertures in the screen having a diameter which is substantially less than the diameter of the outlet nozzles. The apertures increase the pressure necessary to break the meniscus of the ink remaining in a channel after discharge of a droplet by a ratio approximately equal to the ratio of the diameter of the aperture to the diameter of the nozzle. The recording head is thus rendered substantially less sensitive to vibration and other disturbances which may otherwise break the meniscus and permit ink to flow in a channel at undesired times. The screen may be a separately attachable element or may be integrated with the body of the recording head.

An arrangement for optoelectrically scanning a master employs a scanning device having a plurality of scanning elements which simultaneously scan a plurality of parallel lines of a row, the master being displaced at right angles to the scanning direction. The scanning device, like a mosaic printing head, is disposed on a printing carriage of a printing station which moves along a platen and the master to be scanned can be placed around the platen which displaces the master as scanning takes place. In one embodiment the scanning device includes scanning elements which are disposed like the printing elements of a mosaic printing head and the scanned points communicate with the scanning elements through light tunnels, which tunnels may include light guides. In another embodiment, the scanning device includes a lens which focuses the scan points on the scanning elements.

A sandwich ink-jet print head constructed in planar technology is welded into a dual in-line plug-in package which has on its top side a receiving opening for the sandwich ink-jet head and on its underside a contacting and balancing opening which can be sealed so as to be tight with respect to ink, as well as an ink inlet orifice for supplying the printing fluid. After insertion of the sandwich ink-jet head into the dual in-line package, the sandwich ink-jet head is electrically balanced via the contacting and balancing opening, to be precise by means of a resistor array arranged on the sandwich ink-jet head. As a result of the arrangement in a dual in-line package, the ink-jet print head can be mounted so as to be exchangeable in a mounting on the printer carriage. The ink-jet print head is connected to the ink supply system of the printer via a resilient adaptor.
