An aqueous traffic paint including hard-soft polymer particles, polyfunctional amine, and volatile base is provided. The hard-soft polymer particles, which contain soft polymer and hard polymer, have a hydrophobicity characterized by a Hansch parameter of at least 3. Also provided is a method of producing a traffic marking on a road surface using the aqueous paint. The aqueous traffic paint is suitable for application to road surfaces, including oily road surfaces, and may be applied at temperatures below 15° C.

The present invention provides high solids, two-component polyurethane compositions comprising, as one component, polyisocyanate compositions having one or more isocyanurate made from bis(isocyanatomethyl)-cyclohexane, as a second component, one or more high solids polyol, and in either component, one or more tertiary amine catalyst. Optionally, the compositions further comprise one or more zinc amine catalyst. The compositions provide coatings, which exhibit an excellent balance of pot life and dry to touch or tack free time, as well as early rain resistance and hardness, while enabling a lower volatile organic content (VOC) of the compositions for comparable performance.

The present invention provides fast dry binder compositions comprising one or more anionically stabilized emulsion polymer having a weight average particle size of from 100 to 165 nm, one or more polyamine, one or more volatile base and one or more filler, extender and/or pigment in a composition having a % PVC of from 63 to 80. The invention provides surprisingly stable fast dry binder compositions for such a high extender or filler loading and the compositions dry far faster than binders made with waterborne polymers having a larger particle size. The invention provides high performance traffic paints at a reduced cost in use and coated substrates, such as traffic markings or exterior insulation finishes (EIFS).

The present invention provides methods of making shapeable composites in the form of finely divided materials or articles and the materials and articles produced by the methods, the methods comprising forming mixtures by (i) treating an aqueous thermoplastic acrylic or vinyl polymer to increase the particle size thereof to a weight average particle size of 1 μm or more, and, optionally, dewatering to form a crumb mixture; and (ii) combining a thermoplastic acrylic or vinyl polymer with one or more waste rubber vulcanizate having a sieve particle size ranging from 10 to 600 μm in the amount of from 15 to 95 wt. %, based on the total weight of polymer and rubber to form a crumb slurry, such that (ii) can take place before, during, after (i) but before any dewatering, or after any dewatering; and (iii) thermoplastic processing the mixture. Thermoplastic processing can directly form articles, like sheets or films. The shapeable composites have excellent adhesion to other materials. In one embodiment, the sheets and films can be formed into laminates.

One component compositions comprise one or more volatile base, one or more polyfunctional amine, and one or more hollow core binder with a second polymer chosen from, for example, an anionically stabilized emulsion polymer, a polyamine functional polymer, a polymer having strong pendant cationic groups containing and mixtures thereof. The polyfunctional amine can be part of the hollow core binder. Two component compositions comprise one or more aqueous hollow core binder and an absorber component. The present invention also provides coatings and roadway markings made from the fast-drying aqueous compositions.
