摘要: A probe for use in characterizing tissue. The probe includes a plurality of optical fibers and an optical element. Each fiber includes a distal portion and a proximal portion. The fibers transmit light through the fiber to a surrounding area and collect light reflected back from the surrounding area. The optical element may be adjacent an outer periphery of the distal portion of the plurality of optical fibers. The optical element reduces an optical path length through blood.

An optical head which includes a laser diode array comprises a collection objective, an anamorphic beam expander and a focusing lens. The optical head collects the laser beams emitted by the diode array, expands the beam cross-section to form circular beams and focuses the beams to diffraction limited spots.

摘要: A phase-locked semiconductor laser array is dephased-locked by forming at least two p-type contacts electrically isolated from one another coupled to one side of the active region and a single contact layer coupled to the other side of the active region. The same current is applied to two p-type contacts to form a single phase-locked far-field lobe. A different current is applied to one of the two p-type contacts to drive one contact harder than the other to form a dephased multiple lobe beam. An effective aperture at the receiver receives the in-phase single lobe and blocks the multiple lobes to produce a modulation effect at the receiver.

摘要: Surface emitting lasers are laterally aligned and coupled together and also have their light output signals combined. This results in greater phase and frequency coherency and narrower and reduced amplitude sidelobes. Preferably, not more than two lasers are longitudinally aligned along the same axis for still greater coherency compared with adding the light output signals of more than two longitudinally aligned lasers. The lasers can be of the DH-LOC type or of the QW type.
