Aspects of the disclosure relate to nanoparticle formulations and methods for generating nanoparticles. Embodiments include nanoparticles comprising an amphiphile and a polymer co-assembly agent. In some cases, polymers for use in therapeutic delivery are described. In some embodiments, the disclosed methods and compositions involve TLR agonists and formulations thereof capable of activating an immune response. Certain aspects relate to nanoparticles comprising linked TLR agonists for use in immunotherapy.

An asymmetric Stockbridge damper having at least six and as many as ten resonant frequencies. The damper includes two assemblies, each having a primary weight at the end of a messenger cable and two secondary weights at the ends of thin beams. The thin beams are mounted at one end to the primary weight and each support a secondary weight at an opposite end. The thin beams extend parallel to the messenger cable. The messenger cable is affixed to a clamp assembly which clamps to an overhead transmission line. The clamp assembly includes a toggle crank generating a theoretically infinite clamping force on the transmission line.

One embodiment provides a method, comprising: calculating, using at least one computer, a distance to a hull for an alloy XxY1-x in the range 0.01≦x≦0.99, where X and Y are perovskite materials; determining, using the at least one computer, a preferred phase for the alloy in the range 0.01≦x≦0.99; and selecting an alloy composition having the distance to the hull being less than 0.1 eV/atom and for which the preferred phase in at least a portion of the range 0.01≦x≦0.99 is a tetragonal phase. Piezoelectric materials as selected by the method are also provided.

The present invention provides a method of bioluminescence-driven optogenetic control of excitable cells. The excitable cell expresses a light-gated ion channel, and a luminescent protein can be expressed either in the excitable cell or in another cell proximal to the excitable cell. The methods of the invention can be used to desynchronize local activity of excitable cells in a mammalian tissue. The methods of the invention can be used to treat a disease or condition in a mammal, the disease or condition being related to bursting. The disease or condition can be Parkinson's disease, epilepsy, a sleep disorder, or a sensory-related disease or condition (e.g., attention deficit disorder or pain). The invention also provides a conjugate of containing a voltage-gated ion channel and a luminescent protein.

Systems and methods are described for detecting heat stroke and monitoring cooling treatment of heat stroke. The system includes a rectal temperature probe including a flexible length and an indicator positioned on the flexible length to indicate when the probe has been inserted to a target insertion depth. A controller is configured to receive a signal from the probe indicative of a sensed temperature and to determine whether heat stroke is likely based on the sensed temperature. When monitoring cooling treatment, a cooling rate is calculated based on periodically sensed temperatures and, based on the calculated cooling rate, the system indicates whether the heat stroke is being adequately treated or if the current treatment methods are insufficient.
