Abstract: In a vessel for installing a structure onto or into a seabed, multiple actuators comprised by a dynamic positioning system and a structure positioning system may be used for controlling a position and/or orientation of the structure. When two actuators are actuated simultaneously or in rapid succession, instabilities may occur. Furthermore, two actuators may be working in opposite directions or with opposite control goals. To increase stability and/or workability of the vessel's actuators, a supervisory control arrangement is provided to interconnect control systems of different actuators of the vessel, for example the dynamic positioning system and the structure positioning system. Where previously the dynamic positioning system and the structure position system were individually operating system, with the supervisory control arrangement one system can take into account an input and/or output of the other system.

Abstract: While laying a subsea cable, an exposed cut off end of the cable is exposed to water prior to permanently sealing off this cable end. To prevent damage to the cable due to contact with the often salt water, due to for example oxidation, a temporarily watertight seal is to be applied to the cut off end. A method for applying this seal is provided which comprises applying a mouldable sealant to the exposed end wherein the sealant acts as a watertight barrier between the water and the cut off end of the cable. The sealant may comprise an intermediate layer between the cut off end and a watertight outer layer arranged to increase adhesion between the cut off end and the outer layer. This allows a broader range of outer layer materials to be used as the outer layer material does not need to adhere directly with the cable.

Abstract: A cable laying vessel and method are provided for laying an underwater cable, the cable laying vessel including a floating hull with a bow, a stern and a deck. The hull has a forward shipping direction. The cable laying vessel further includes a cable handling installation that includes a cable chute at the stern, and a cable quadrant and a quadrant manipulator for the cable quadrant on the deck. The cable chute includes a convex curved bottom wall with a bottom wall apex where the bottom wall faces furthest away from the stern. The bottom wall continues as from the bottom wall apex downwards back towards the stern. The cable chute includes a left outer guide wall and a right outer guide wall that extend under an angle with the bottom wall and that flare away from each other in a downward direction.
