Abstract:
A coupling device (1) for the connection of two ends (3, 9) of respective tubular members (2, 5), allowing the contact of the flowing fluid only with elements inside a closed container, circumstances and an inherently easy connection operation, thus it can be carried out, comprising: a closed container (10) housing said ends (3, 9) of respective tubular members (2, 5), one of said tubular members having a flexible terminal section (8) thereof inside said closed container; a mobile connection member (15), coupled at the end of said flexible terminal section (8), having a nozzle (16) apt to be inserted within a receiving end of the other tubular member,—and a cam device, located inside said closed container (10) and apt to be actuated from the outside of said closed container, apt to cooperate with said mobile connection member (15), the cam device causing the insertion and the ejection of said nozzle in and from said receiving end, and the corresponding connection and the disconnection of the two ends.
Abstract:
The use of fibrates, particularly clofibrate, is described for the preparation of a medicament useful in the treatment of congestive heart failure.
Abstract:
Cell membrane maintenance of red blood cells and platelet concentrates is improved by the addition of 1 mM-10 mM L-carnitine and derivatives. This improvement allows extension of the period of viability of packed red blood cells and platelet concentrations beyond current periods. Additionally, the materials so treated exhibit extended circulation half life upon transhision to a patient. Improvements in membrane maintenance achieved by this method permit irradiation of sealed containers of blood products so as to substantially sterilize and destroy leukocytes in the same.
Abstract:
Compounds of formula (I) wherein the groups are as defined in the description are disclosed. The compounds of formula (I) are endowed with reversible inhibiting activity of carnitine palmitoyl-transferase and are useful in the preparation of medicaments useful in the pathologies related to a hyperactivity of carnitine palmitoyl-transferase, such as hyperglycemia, diabetes and pathologies related thereto, heart failure, ischemia.
Abstract:
The protective effect on peritoneum of L-carnitine and its lower alkanoyl derivatives, both in the form of inner or pharmaceutically acceptable salts is disclosed. Concentrations of carnitine from about 0.02 to 0.5% w/v are suitable for preparing a solution for peritoneal dialysis having higher biocompatibility and protecting peritoneum from toxic effects of continuous use of solutions for peritoneal dialysis, in particular ones containing glucose as osmotic agent. A particularly preferred embodiment is a solution for peritoneal dialysis containing carnitine, glucose and xylitol.
Abstract:
The use of L-carnitine and its alkanoyl derivatives, optionally in the form of a pharmaceutically acceptable salt, as osmotic agents in the preparation of solutions for medical use, particularly for peritoneal dialysis, is described.
Abstract:
A pharmaceutical composition is described, comprising a lipid-lowering drug such as lovastatin, simvastatin, pravastatin and fluvastatin and L-carnitine or an alkanoyl L-carnitine, which, while conserving the efficacy of the lipid-lowering drug, is substantially devoid of the toxic or side effects typical of such drugs.
Abstract:
A coupling device for connecting two ends of respective tubular members, allow the opening and the closing of a first tubular member and the simultaneous engagement of the two tubular members, as to prevent pollution, includes: a first case housing a first end of a respective first tubular member, comprising closing means of said first end; a second case, wherein a flexible terminal section of a respective second tubular member is received, comprising means for driving a second end of said second tubular member from a retracted position to a engagement position into said first end and vice versa; and means for reversibly connecting said first and second cases at a respective coupling port thereof, defining a single sealed environment; wherein the engagement and the disengagement of said second end and the automatic mechanical activation and deactivation of said closing means for opening and closing said first end.
