Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a sunscreen composition containing a novel preservative system for inhibiting micro-organisms comprising (a) at least one aromatic carboxylic acid, or salt thereof; (b) from about 0.01% to about 1% by weight of at least one at least one aromatic alcohol; (c) at least one sunscreen active; and (d) a cosmetically acceptable carrier.
Abstract:
A method is described for cooling fuel for a diesel engine system with a common rail fuel injection system having a coolant pump and a fan. The method comprises passing a returning fuel from the engine through a fuel to coolant heat exchange system to cool the fuel, and adjusting the cooling of the fuel by controlling the coolant pump and/or the engine cooling fan.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a physiologically acceptable composition, especially a cosmetic composition, comprising at least one polyorganosiloxane containing polymer comprising at least one moiety which comprises: at least one polyorganosiloxane group consisting of 1 to about 1000 organosiloxane units in the chain of the moiety or in the form of graft, and at least two groups capable of establishing hydrogen interactions.
Abstract:
A method for detecting ambient conditions conducive to ice formation. The method includes the steps of measuring at least one parameter selected from a group of parameters consisting of a static pressure, a total pressure, a total temperature, a dew point temperature, and a liquid water content, and determining whether ambient conditions are conducive to ice formation based on the measured parameter.
Abstract:
A vehicle 10 includes an accessory system 40 coupled to an engine control module 26. The accessory system 40 may, for example, be a snow plow. The accessory system 40 is coupled to a first pin 30 and a second pin 32 of the engine control module. When both of the pins are high, the idle speed of an engine 12 is raised so that the speed of the alternator 14 is raised so that a battery 16 may maintain a charging level on the battery.
Abstract:
The disclosure relates to sunscreen compositions having a synergistic combination of ultraviolet light (UV) filtering agents that provide a high sun protection factor (SPF). Compositions according to the disclosure have high SPF values without requiring high overall amounts of UV filtering agents, and without requiring the use of oxybenzone. Furthermore, the disclosure relates to methods of using the described compositions for protecting keratinous substances such as skin and hair from UV radiation.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to two-phase sunscreen compositions containing (1) a water phase including an alcohol having five or fewer carbons and a polyol; and (2) an oil phase including at least one sunscreen active, a first emollient, and a second emollient, the first emollient having a first polarity, the second emollient having a second polarity, the first polarity differing from the second polarity. The present invention is also directed to a two-phase sunscreen product formed from the two-phase sunscreen composition and a method of protecting a keratinous substrate from UV radiation by applying onto a surface of the keratinous substrate the two-phase sunscreen product.
Abstract:
The present application relates to a UV protecting composition containing: (a) at least one organic UV sunscreen active; (b) at least one semi-crystalline polymer which is solid at ambient temperature and has a melting point of less than about 8O0 C; (c) hollow latex particles; and (d) at least one additional ingredient chosen from: i) a UV light absorbing compound having an SPF of less than 2, and ii) an SPF booster capable of reflecting UV light, different from hollow latex particles, wherein the hollow latex particles are employed in an amount equal to, or greater than, the amount of the at least one organic UV sunscreen active present in the composition. The invention also relates processes for protecting cellular targets from UV rays and free radical-induced damage by topically applying a UV protecting composition onto a keratinous substance, such as skin, and processes for making such compositions.
