    摘要: A method for laterally extrapolating shallow soil properties using soil samples and seismic amplitude data within a seismic coverage area entails obtaining seismic amplitude data for the seismic coverage area and obtaining average soil property and soil impedance data for locations in the seismic coverage area. The seismic amplitude data is compared with the soil impedance data at locations in the seismic coverage area forming an amplitude impendence formula. The seismic amplitude data is converted to soil-calibrated impedance data using the amplitude impendence formula. The method continues by comparing an average of desired soil property and the soil impedance data at locations in the seismic coverage area forming a soil property-impendence formula. A target soil property is selected and the soil calibrated impedance data is converted to the target soil property using the soil property impendence formula. The method ends by extrapolating the target soil property over the entire seismic coverage area.

    摘要: Anchor for mooring of buoyant marine structures. The anchor comprises an elongated shaft with a mooring line attachment that is rotatable around the full circumference (that is, a full 360 degrees of rotation) of the anchor shaft. The lower end of the shaft comprises nose section, while the upper end comprises a tail section. A plurality of fins are attached to the nose section and tail section, and extend radially outward from the anchor shaft. While the number of fins may vary, one presently preferred embodiment has three fins in each section of the anchor shaft. The anchor is preferably configured (via design of the nose and tail section fin areas, shapes, etc., and the location of the mooring line attachment along the anchor shaft) such that less soil resistance is created on the nose section than on the tail section under the influence of a mooring line load, so that the anchor will rotate slightly about the mooring line attachment point under the applied load while penetrating deeper into the soil underlying the seabed.

    摘要: A system is presented with a seabed unit, a remotely operated vehicle (ROV), a cone rod measuring device, and a support ship. The seabed unit is lowered from the support ship by a winch line to the seafloor itself. A caisson on the seabed unit is used to secure the seabed unit to the seafloor. The ROV then inserts the cone rod measurement device into the upper thruster unit of the seabed unit. The thruster unit has a jacking mechanism for inserting the cone rod into the soil of the seafloor. The ROV has a hydraulic power source and hydraulic controls to manipulate the hydraulic actuators of the thruster unit to control the manner and timing of the jacking process that inserts and extracts the cone rod measuring unit into the seafloor. The ROV contains underwater cameras and control units that observe measurement gauges on the thruster unit and allow appropriate manipulation of the hydraulic controls on the ROV and the thruster unit. The ROV can contain telemetry devices to extract and transmit data obtained from the cone rod measuring unit, or the cone rod measuring unit can contain its own electronic packages to transmit the data immediately or to store the information for downloading up recovery by the support ship. Beside cone rod measuring units, the present invention can also employ coil rod measuring units and a wide variety of other measuring devices.
