Abstract:
A guiding means for a moving web is adapted to move the web into and out of engagement with an ironing roll. The guiding mechanism in a first position will hold the web in contact with the ironing roll for ironing the fibers of the moving web. Moving of the guiding means to a second position will permit the web to be moved out of engagement with the ironing roll, but will also provide for automatic compensation for slack created by moving the web away from the ironing roll.
Abstract:
The propensity of poly(vinyl chloride) homopolymer and poly (vinyl chloride) copolymer resin-containing compositions to smoke on exposure to fire is greatly diminished by the addition of effective amounts of mixtures of zinc compounds and molybdenum compounds, which have the molybdenum metal ion in the 6 plus valence state, or zinc molybdate. Based on 100 parts by weight resin, mixtures containing 0.2 to 7 parts by weight zinc metal plus 0.3 to 10 parts by weight molybdenum metal have been found effective. Also from 0.5 to 7 parts by weight zinc molybdate has been found effective. In the case of the mixtures, the minimum total effective weight of zinc and molybdenum metal is about 0.8 parts with a maximum of about 10 parts, based on 100 parts by weight resin, and, in the mixtures, the zinc to molybdenum metal ion weight ratio is preferably less than about 2:1.
Abstract:
An apparatus is provided for coating the ends of tubing. The tubing is placed in a turret structure that has on either end thereof adhesive-coated rotating application disks. As the turret with the tube rotates through 90*, the adhesive applying disks rotate along the planes of the ends of the tubing to coat the ends of the tubing with an adhesive.
Abstract:
A random linear streaked design is achieved in a non-woven needled fabric structure particularly adapted for carpets by: laying up a web comprised of dyed staple fiber bundles, individual bundles being of one of a plurality of colors, by opening the bundles and blending the bundles forming the web to a controlled degree such that individual bundles in the web retain their distinct coloration; garnetting the web to orient the fibers at a speed whereby further blending is minimized; crosslapping said web onto a preformed backing web positioned on a stationary apron to form a plurality of layers in which the garnetted fibers are substantially parallel to cross-machine direction; and transporting said backing web and overlying layers to a needling operation and needling the web and overlying layers to form an integral, unitary, needled fabric in which the slightly opened commingled fibers form colorful streaks having a random linear design comprised of the plurality of colors forming the original staple fiber bundles.
Abstract:
A flexible, dimensionally stable plastic surface covering having a non-foamed poly(vinyl chloride) layer containing cross-linked polymer positioned between two foamed poly(vinyl chloride) layers, and having a wear resistant top coat on the surface of the system. One or more of the foamed surfaces may be embossed, and the top foamed surface may carry a printed decoration thereon.
Abstract:
A veneered or laminated board structure is conventionally made of a wood core which has a surface covering made of a crossbanding material and then this is followed by a wood veneer finish layer. Herein, the cross-banding material is made from a porous felt sheet containing uncatalyzed urea-formaldehyde resin. The adhesive which is applied to the felt sheet to glue it to the wood core and veneer layer contains a catalyst. During the laminating process, the catalyst of the adhesive catalyzes the urea-formaldehyde resin in the cross-banding material.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method are provided for continuously forming hollow tubing of foam material comprising a mandrel fixed at one end about which said tubing is formed from a web of material by confining the foam material within an annular space of an envelope of flexible laminar material which is allowed to foam and expand and the envelope of confined foamed material then moved longitudinally of said mandrel and thereafter cured while moving along said mandrel. In order to assure cross-sectional symmetry or concentricity of the hollow tubing, means are provided for aligning the mandrel by controlling its flexure to a position which will provide a product having the desired concentricity, and means associated with a region of the mandrel away from the fixed end for detecting variations in alignment from the desired alignment, whereby when a variation in alignment is detected, the means for aligning the mandrel is actuated to compensate for the detected variation.
Abstract:
A conventional corrugated deck material is used with many roof structures. A hook structure is provided on a conventional suspension runner for a suspended ceiling system. This hook structure engages the flutes of the corrugated roof deck to hold the suspension runner in position. The suspended ceiling system is then fastened to the suspension runners.
Abstract:
Process of making a decorative surface covering by applying a first printing to a suitable backing followed by coating the printed backing with a transparent (after fusion), resinous coat. A second printing is applied to the transparent coating, the printing composition containing a blowing agent that will penetrate into the transparent coating. On subsequent fusion and decomposition of the blowing agent, raised cellular areas occur in regions where the blowing agent composition was printed.
Abstract:
A cross member is provided with a flange which is placed in the edge kerf of ceiling boards. The cross member supports the ceiling boards in position. A joint structure is provided to connect together two adjacent cross members. The joint structure is so arranged with a slot and tab that the two cross members can be somewhat adjustable in length.
