    摘要: A system for cyclically lifting a large volume of water includes a piston plate having first and second sides. The water to be lifted exerts a water pressure on the second side of the piston plate, while compressed air held in a pressurized tank exerts an air pressure on the first side of the piston plate. The resultant pressure differential Δp is such that the piston plate is biased to move in a particular direction. A force actuator is provided that periodically exerts a force F on the piston plate to overcome the bias of Δp and thereby lift the volume of water.

    摘要: A motorized apparatus is provided to lift, tilt and transport heavy tank-like objects such as water heaters. Structurally, the apparatus includes a hitching assembly which can be engaged with an elongated tank to hold it on the apparatus. A guide rail, which is mounted for rotation around a pivot point on a chassis of the apparatus, is also engaged with the hitching assembly. Screw-drives, which are engaged between the guide rail and the hitching assembly, are activated to move the hitching assembly in translation on the guide rail. Also, a screw-drive, which is engaged between the chassis and the guide rail, is activated to rotate the hitching assembly and tank together around the pivot point on the chassis. Further, drive wheels on the apparatus can be selectively activated to transport the entire apparatus.

    摘要: A system and method for controlling the energy flux of a light beam (carrier wave) relies on the manipulation of a light beam's Poynting vector to switch the light beam from one optical waveguide to another. A modulator positioned between the two waveguides has an index of refraction n+ik wherein ik is a loss/gain component. It is the manipulation of this loss/gain component ik by an external stimulus which causes anisotropic changes in orthogonal components of the light beam's Poynting vector. This, in turn, causes changes in the propagation distance of the light beam (carrier wave) over a length L along the waveguides that switch the light beam from one waveguide to the other.

    摘要: The present invention is a fuel additive that includes adducts which have been formed in a solution of metallic ions, ethanol and water. In particular, the adducts are formed for the fuel additive when the solution is electromagnetically radiated. When formed, the adducts have relatively strong permanent dipoles that will influence the temporary dipoles of hydrocarbons in untreated fuel. Specifically, under the influence of the fuel additive, hydrocarbons in the treated fuel will exhibit permanent dipoles that more effectively interact with oxygen molecules from air when the treated fuel is atomized in air in a combustion chamber.

    摘要: An apparatus and method are provided for performing ocular laser surgery using a patient interface having a posterior contact surface that may include surface irregularities that were generated during manufacturing of the patient interface. A beam delivery system having a focusing lens, scanning subsystem and adaptive optic (e.g. deformable mirror) is provided for guiding the surgical laser beam through the patient interface and to a desired focal spot location. An optical detector generates image data representing the posterior patient interface surface which is then processed by a computer system to identify surface irregularities by comparing the image data to a reference surface or axis. In particular, a surface irregularity can be identified as having a z-axis component; a tilt component and a surface profile component. Each irregularity component can be compensated separately by sending an adjustment signal to one of the beam delivery system components.
