A method for preparing substantially dry homopolymers and copolymers which comprises forming a polymeric latex or water-in-oil emulsion and partially inverting said latex by regulated contact time with water in the time span 0.5 - 10.0 seconds and preferably less than 1 second. A preferred operation is carried out in a static mixer where the contact time for inversion is regulated by the diameter or length of a cylindrical tube containing static baffles.

A novel polymer of a vinyl benzyl ether monomer and at least one other copolymerizable monomer, at least one of which other monomers has a carboxylic acid group, an anhydride group, a sulfate group, a sulfonate group or a hydroxyl group is disclosed. They may be prepared in aqueous medium. They may be blended with polyvinyl alcohol and the blends may be used to provide solvent resistant electroconductive coatings to sheet materials used in electrographic printing.

Crystalline copolymers of ethylene and tetrafluoroethylene of high thermal stability characteristics in the molten state and high resistance to oxidation under heat, having a contact in tetrafluoroethylene from 53 to 63% in moles, homogeneously distributed along the chain axis and among the chains characterized in that the temperature gap between their ultimate melting temperature and the temperature at which oxidative decomposition of the copolymers begins is at least 80*C. They are prepared by polymerization of monomers mixtures having a content in tetrafluoroethylene greater than 78% in moles. The copolymers can be used as plastic materials and are particularly useful since said temperature gap of at least 80*C permits the processing thereof, and the reprocessing of scraps, to useful manufactured articles, conveniently and economically and by conventional techniques.

A composition is produced by combining one or more members selected from the group consisting of omega -vinyloxyalkyl cinnamate, omega -vinyloxyalkyl styrylacrylate and homologs thereof with a cationic polymerization catalyst. This composition is polymerized or copolymerized to form a novel photosensitive polymer. The product of polymerization or copolymerization is a linear polymer or linear copolymer in which only the vinyl group is polymerized and the photosensitive group is quantitatively retained in the side chain. This polymer or copolymer enjoys a high degree of photosensitivity and permits the photocrosslinking reaction to occur uniformly.

A process for the polymerization of an olefinic monomer by contacting the monomer with a polymerization initiator having an oxidizing agent, a chelating compound of the metal, in which the metal is still capable of accepting one or more electron pairs from an electron donor and an electron donor in an amount at least equal to that required to complex completely the metal of the chelate compound. With the polymerization initiator, polymerization of the olefinic monomer can be accomplished at low temperatures employing oxidizing agents which are stable at the lower temperatures. Also, the solubility of the initiators allows polymerization by suspension process.
