摘要: An improved process for the purification and denitrification of sewage which comprises setting the sewage liquid in motion, aerating the sewage liquid to effect the aerobic decomposition thereof, allowing said aerobic decomposition to continue until substantially the entire oxygen content of said aerated sewage liquid has been depleted, adding additional untreated sewage liquid thereto for the purpose of denitrifying the aerated sewage liquid, and withdrawing said aerated, denitrified sewage liquid for clarification and/or sedimentation and/or recycle; and an apparatus directed thereto which comprises an aeration reservoir fitted with inlet means, agitating means and outlet means, said inlet means being positioned in said reservoir to allow for maximum aerobic decomposition and denitrification.

摘要: LIQUID SEWAGE FROM AN INDIVIDUAL RESIDENCE IS DIRECTED GENERALLY TANGENTIALLY INTO A LARGE, FLAT AND SHALLOW AEROBIC SETTLEMENT TANK TO EXPOSE A LARGE SURFACE AREA OF THE SEWAGE PER UNIT VOLUME. AIR IS CIRCULATED OVER THE SURFACE OF THE SEWAGE IN A GENERALLY SPIRAL DIRECTION TO EFFECT CIRCULATION OR TURBULENCE OF THE SEWAGE WITHIN THE TANK AND DIFFUSION OF THE AIR INTO THE LIQUID. THE AIR FLOW WITHIN THE TANK IS PRODUCED BY CONNECTING THE AIR FLOW WITHIN TANK TO A CHIMNEY WHICH PROJECTS UPWARDLY ADJACENT THE OUTER WALL OF THE RESIDENCE AND CREATES A NATURAL DRAFT. THE LIQUID TREATED IN THE AEROBIC SETTLEMENT TANK IS DIRECTED INTO A SIMILARLY SHAPED AEROBIC DIGESTOR AND CLARIFIER TANK WHICH ALSO PROVIDES FOR CIRCULATION OF THE TREATED LIQUID AND DIFFUSION OF THE AIR IN RESPONSE TO A GENERALLY SPIRAL FLOW OF AIR ALSO CREATED BY THE CHIMNEY DRAFT. THE SECOND TANK DEFINES AN ANNULAR CLARIFIER CHAMBER WHICH RECEIVES THE TREATED LIQUID BEFORE IT IS DISCHARGED. THE DISCHARGED EFFLUENT MAY BE DIRECTED THROUGH A CHLORINATOR FORMED BY A VERTICAL HOUSING WHICH RECEIVES A SUPPLY OF CHLORINE CRYSTALS. THE CRYSTALS ARE URGED DOWNWARDLY INTO THE PATH OF THE EFFLUENT BY A COMBINED WEIGHT AND VALUE MEMBER WHICH IS EFEICTIVE TO STOP THE FLOW OF TREATED LIQUID IN THE EVENT ADDITIONAL CHLORINE CRYSTALS ARE NOT ADDED TO THE SUPPLY.

摘要: A denitrification apparatus, for use in a wastewater treatment system having a mixed liquor source, is disclosed. The apparatus has at least two non-aerated continuous channels, connected in series. Wastewater flows from the mixed liquor source into the series of channels and then flows back into the mixed liquor source. In a preferred embodiment the inlets and outlets for each channel are arranged so that the flow into the channel is into the lower portion of the channel, and the flow from the channel is from the upper portion.

摘要: A wastewater orbital treatment system includes an elongated racetrack-like tank containing a central partition wall. A surface aerator is mounted adjacent to at least one end of the partition wall to both aerate and propel the mixed liquor including biomass around the orbital tank. An aerobic zone for BOD and ammonia oxidation is provided in an upper layer of the moving volume of mixed liquor and an anoxic zone for reduction of NO.sub.x from the aerobic zone, by anoxic respiration by the biomass, is provided in a lower layer of the moving volume of mixed liquor. An imperforate horizontal baffle is provided under the surface aerator so as to prevent dissolved oxygen in the aerobic zone from entering the anoxic zone. The NO.sub.x from the aerobic zone is introduced through a free interface of the two vertically displaced zones downstream of the baffle. In a preferred embodiment a radial impeller connected by a common drive shaft to the surface aerator is positioned below the baffle and aids in propelling the anoxic zone layer around the circuit.
