摘要: An RF amplifier assembly employing a finned heat sink and a heat pipe enhanced aluminum pallet is disclosed. The hybrid heat pipe enhanced aluminum pallet reduces the spreading thermal conduction resistance associated with the conduction of localized energy from RF amplifier devices when compared to a copper pallet. The localized energy concentration of RF amplifier devices is spread along the length of the heat pipe increasing the overall efficiency of the heat sink coupled to the pallet and accommodating non-uniform heat loading. This reduces the junction temperature of the devices, which leads to higher mean time before failure and higher output levels. The pipes are formed and embedded into the pallet so as to pass under different areas of interest and extend to the under-utilized regions.

摘要: Disclosed are a fixed-bed, cross-flow catalytic reactor wherein reaction heat can be exchanged against a heat exchange medium circulating indirectly through the catalyst bed, and a catalytic process comprising operation of the cross-flow reactor. The reactor comprises a catalyst bed having internally embedded banks of heat exchange tubes. An inlet distributor distributes reactants along the axial length of the bed. The distributed fluid passes through the bed in a cross-flow path wherein a catalytic reaction occurs. The reaction effluent is then collected from the bed by an outlet product collector. A heat exchange medium circulated through the internal heat exchange tubes adds or removes reaction heat as required for enhanced conversion in the reactor. Multiple heat exchange tubes can be used, and inlet and discharge manifolds are provided for distributing the circulating heat exchange medium. The heat exchange tubes can be spaced in accordance with the heat interchange required to optimize the reaction rate. A relatively shorter cross-flow path through a relatively larger flow area enhances reactor performance by allowing the catalyst particle size to be reduced without substantially increasing pressure drop.

摘要: A load-following vaporizer converts an inlet liquid reactant stream to an outlet vapor reactant stream. The vaporizer comprises a containment shell, a nozzle and a fin block. The fin block has a base in thermal contact a heat source, preferably a thermal fluid stream. The base has a plurality of evaporative heat transfer structures that are spaced from and generally radiate from the nozzle outlet. Each of the evaporative heat transfer structures has two principal surfaces oriented such that the extension of each of the surfaces intersects the nozzle outlet. Upon contacting the evaporative heat transfer structures, the atomized liquid reactant dispersion is vaporized to produce a vaporized reactant stream. The vaporizer rapidly responds to changes in the inlet liquid reactant flow rate to produce a corresponding change in the output vapor flow rate by minimizes the liquid inventory within the heated environment. The load-following vaporizer is compact, lightweight and compatible with other components of an integrated fuel processing system.

摘要: In order to improve the transfer of heat within a heat exchanger, one or more tubes (11) for a heat transporting medium are embedded by casting into a block (12a) of an aluminum alloy or some other metal having a high heat-conducting capacity. The block is at its outward faces provided with surface-enlarging flanges (15), and is enclosed in a casing (13) which defines a passage for a second heat-transporting medium flowing around the block (12a). A block can be prismatic or annular, and a number of blocks can be fitted within the same casing. In one embodiment, electric resistance elements are provided within the embedded tubes as a first heat-transporting medium in order to obtain an electrically heated heat exchanger, with the second heat-transporting medium being for example oil.

摘要: The present invention relates to a double barrier heat exchanger between a radioactive primary fluid and a secondary fluid making it possible to detect a possible primary fluid leak in the exchanger. The primary fluid circulates in a primary duct and the secondary fluid circulates in a secondary duct, a junction matrix being positioned between the primary and secondary ducts and in contact with the latter. The matrix is in the form of a compact metallic mass incorporating at least one element, e.g. silver, which can be made raidoactive when it diffuses into the primary fluid. Application is to sampling circuits in nuclear reactors.

摘要: A method and apparatus for manufacturing a heat exchanger. A plurality of parallel pipes are advanced from a magazine to an axially slotted open ended shell blank which is radially compressed against the pipes. The contacting surfaces of the pipe openings are then welded together, after which the ends of the package of pipes are immersed in a casting mass, which, after solidifying, is severed along a line therethrough so as to open the pipes at both ends. A wall enclosing each open end is then connected to each end of the pipe package.

摘要: A heat accumulator is provided which has a heat exchanger embedded in a crystalline substance and has a maximum operating temperature greater than the melting point of the crystalline substance. The latter and the heat exchanger are integrated in a moulding bonded by means of crosslinked plastic. Preferably, the crosslinked plastic is crystalline and, at the same time, forms the crystalline substance. There is also provided an installation for the utilization of solar energy. The installation comprises a heat accumulator as described hereinbefore, a useful-heat exchanger and a solar energy absorber, which are connected together to form a heat transfer circuit. The installation is of particular use for the production of warm water.

摘要: A method and system is disclosed in which an air to air heat exchanger keeps two air streams separate through the use of metal fins. Edges of alternating fins are folded so that the end is in the proximity of the adjacent fin and the remaining gap is sealed. The fin stack is held together by interlocking features or through the use of a tube, in which case the fin stacks may be stamped and stacked on alignment stakes during production using the same holes as the tubes. The heat exchanger may have extended use in removing moisture and heat from a hot humid air stream. The heat exchanger has utility in heat recovery ventilation systems, clothes dryer heat recovery or other air to air heat exchanger processes where the pressure difference between the airstreams is less than approximately 5000 Pa.
