    摘要: A gear pump is provided with a movable wear plate disposed between the pump gears and housing. A seal member received in a groove formed in the surface of the wear plate adjacent the housing is pressure-loaded during operation and thereby urged into sealing engagement with the housing to define pressure loading zones on the wear plate. The fluid pressure exerted on the wear plate, as determined by the pressure loading zones, urges the wear plate in a direction to load the gears. Preloading means are provided to urge the seal member in one direction toward the housing and in another direction toward one of the side walls of the groove to provide an effective fluid seal when the pump is at rest and during initial operation.

    摘要: A sealing assembly particularly suitable for use with rotary devices such as eccentric rotor engines, including the type referred to as ''''Wankel engines,'''' as well as other types of rotary engines, and rotary pumps, compressors and the like. The sealing assembly is constructed in such a manner that the friction forces generated by relative movement of the two surfaces are harnessed and utilized to increase the resistance to movement of fluid from a high-pressure zone to a low-pressure zone. The friction forces act on force-transmitting means which produce reaction components of force in two directions to simultaneously urge a sealing member toward sealing engagement with two angularly disposed surfaces and resist any forces tending to urge the sealing member away from the two surfaces. The sealing assembly is thus automatically compensating for wear and for friction and other forces tending to urge the sealing member away from the two sealing surfaces. A groove in the end face of one of two relatively moveable members receives a sealing strip which has a portion projecting from the groove for engagement with a surface of the second member. Interengageable force-transmitting means on the sealing strip and first member are operable in response to friction forces between the surface of the second member and the sealing strip to simultaneously urge the sealing strip toward sealing engagement with one side wall of the groove and the surface of the second member to simultaneously resist forces tending to separate the sealing strip from the surface of the second member and from the side wall of the groove, which would provide a leakage path for gases from a highpressure zone to a low-pressure zone located on opposite sides of the sealing strip.
