摘要: Individual road transport and rail-bound transport are combined with rapid transfer from one transport mode to the other. The transport units for individual traffic are semi-trailer trucks. The load and transported-material bearing semi-trailer are transferred by cross-rolling onto the low-platform railroad car for rail-bound shipping. The tractor-truck serves only as a power plant and supports docking. Thereafter the tractor is again available for other transports in individual traffic. The energy of motion is supplied from the tractor-truck through extensible power or air lines to the semi-trailer and these lines are disconnected following docking. Locks are provided to secure the position of the semi-trailer on the low-platform railroad car and these locks are of the self-service type. Means for anti-tipping are provided at the apron and/or at the low-platform railroad cars to prevent their tipping during load transfer. These means for anti-tipping consist of latches movable along the low-platform railroad cars which engage matching shaped-sections at the apron.

摘要: A dual-mode transportation system comprises a monotube guideway along which a dual-mode vehicle travels in a first mode of operation, the dual-mode vehicle having a second mode of operation in which it travels along a roadway. Each dual-mode vehicle carries its own four-wheel dolly for engaging the guideway as the vehicle travels along the guideway, the dolly being retractable so as to be stored in a recess in the roof of the vehicle. The dolly carries a flexible pick-up element which extends to an electric supply line in the guideway so as to receive and provide to the vehicle centrally generated power provided by the electric supply line. Power received by the vehicle during travel along the guideway is used not only to motivate the vehicle along the guideway but also to recharge a battery which powers the vehicle during conventional roadway travel. Preferably, the system is computer-controlled so as to maintain proper distance between and speed of vehicles, locate and identify disabled vehicles, properly route vehicles to their destination, and adjust vehicle speed based on fluctuation of system load. The duel-mode vehicle is, preferably, a three-wheel vehicle having a single driven rear wheel, capable of 360.degree. rotation.

摘要: A funicular type transport device including a variation chain and at least one tractor chain. The variation chain includes a plurality of variation links of variable length forming a continuous loop and a plurality of mobiles interconnected with the plurality of variation links. Each of the plurality of mobile components is provided with an interconnection device selectively engageable with the at least one tractor chain. A sensor measures the tension in the variation chain. A control device responds to the sensor to maintain the tension in the variation chain below a predetermined maximum level.

摘要: A method and apparatus for automatically operating a semi-continuous passenger transport system using non-motorized vehicles. Fault conditions corresponding to passengers or articles carried by passengers projecting beyond a surface limiting access to the vehicles in stations are detected. Detection of such fault conditions initiates progressive implementation of fault condition signalling, and slowing and stopping of the tracks which drive the vehicles. These measures are progressively cancelled on clearance of the fault condition.

摘要: Transport installation comprising individual passive vehicles each equipped with a triple grip for coupling the vehicle to a main haulage cable extending along the track or to auxiliary haulage cables for instance acceleration and deceleration cables in a station. One pair of jaws of the grip is open when the two other pairs of jaws are in the coupling position and inversely. A change of cable operation is effected by a single control and the gauge of the grip is maintained small to permit its passing between the guide sheaves of the cables.

摘要: A vehicle system has a track along which a cable is driven, preferably at constant speed, to entrain a plurality of vehicles rollingly along the track. The vehicle carries a pair of pinch rollers adapted to grip the cable without slippage and at least one of these rollers is journaled on the vehicle and can entrain a star-shaped member whose spokes or arms have rollers adapted to engage cam surfaces disposed along the track. Depending upon the orientation of the cam surfaces, the vehicle may be displaced at a rate in excess of the linear speed of the cable, at the same rate as the cable or at a slower speed. This allows the vehicle to be slowed down for embarkation and disembarkation but permits the vehicle to be driven at high speeds between such embarkation/disembarkation stations all while the cable is operated at substantially constant speed.

摘要: A transportation system is disclosed and claimed herein for the conveyance of petroleum or other products from areas having adverse climatic conditions to a destination where the materials may be more conventionally handled. The system likewise includes means for returning transportation vehicles to the point of origin for refilling. A pipe conduit system is suspended from a plurality of supports and receives at least one vehicle movable on a trackway therethrough. The vehicle is self driven and receives power from a power supply located within the conduit. Additionally, outside rails may be secured to the pipe conduit, so as to receive additional outside driven vehicles for the transportation of freight or passengers. The vehicle of the present invention comprises a transportation container suspended on opposite ends thereof from two independent drive units. The drive units have a housing with male and female coupling members secured thereto and extending outwardly in opposite directions therefrom. Received around the housing is a rotatable drum that serves as a single wheel for the driving unit and engages the trackway within the conduit. The drum is provided with preferably an alternating current electric motor coupled to a hydrodynamic torque converter which in turn is coupled to a sun and planet gear arrangement. The interior periphery of the drum is associated with one of the gears of the sun and planet gear arrangement so as to receive driving power therefrom. Electric power is received by contacts on the housing that engage current rails received in the upper portion of the conduit. Both the transportation system and the vehicle are claimed.

摘要: Means of transportation comprise a track and vehicle guided along the track with the self-routing faculty of track selection. That is to say, two stationary guides are positioned at each branch of the track, and each vehicle carries means to select one or other of the guides and hence to follow one or other of the alternative routes at each track branch. For optimum track utilisation the vehicles, particularly at busy traffic periods, are grouped so that a plurality of vehicles run as a ''''contact train'''' with the individual vehicles in each group in contact one with the next. Although in contact they remain separate, so that at each branch any vehicle is free to follow the chosen or preprogrammed route at that branch.
