Abstract: Methods, apparatuses, and computer-readable media are provided for maintaining blob trackers for video frames. For example, a blob tracker maintained for a current video frame is identified. The blob tracker is associated with a blob detected in one or more video frames. The blob includes pixels of at least a portion of a foreground object in the one or more video frames. A current bounding region of the blob tracker for the current video frame is compared to a previous bounding region of the blob tracker for a previous video frame that is obtained earlier in time than the current video frame. It can be determined whether the current bounding region has decreased in size as compared to a size of the previous bounding region, and whether a first color characteristic of pixels of the current video frame included in the previous bounding region is within a threshold from a second color characteristic of pixels of the previous video frame included in the previous bounding region. In some examples, the blob is tracked in the current frame using the current bounding region when the current bounding region has decreased in size and when the first color characteristic is within the threshold from the second color characteristic. In some examples, the blob is tracked using the current bounding region when the blob tracker is determined to be lost (e.g., the blob tracker is not associated with the blob in the current video frame).

Abstract: Methods and an apparatus for background subtraction are described. According to some implementations, the temporal history of a pixel location can be used to classify whether a current input pixel of a current input video frame is a background pixel or a foreground pixel. The classification can be made based on the number of matching pixels in corresponding pixel locations in background history planes. One of the background history planes can be updated according to the classified background pixels and persistent classified foreground pixels.

Abstract: Techniques and systems are provided for processing video data. For example, techniques and systems are provided for performing content-adaptive blob filtering. A number of blobs generated for a video frame is determined. The first blob is filtered from the plurality of blobs when the size of the first blob is less than a size threshold. The size threshold is determined based on the number of the plurality of blobs generated for the video frame.

Abstract: This disclosure describes techniques for signaling and processing information indicating simplified depth coding (SDC) for depth intra-prediction and depth inter-prediction modes in a 3D video coding process, such as a process defined by the 3D-HEVC extension to HEVC. In some examples, the disclosure describes techniques for unifying the signaling of SDC for depth intra-prediction and depth inter-prediction modes in 3D video coding. The signaling of SDC can be unified so that a video encoder or video decoder uses the same syntax element for signaling SDC for both the depth intra-prediction mode and the depth inter-prediction mode. Also, in some examples, a video coder may and/or process a residual value generated in the SDC mode using the same syntax structure, or same type of syntax structure, for both the depth intra-prediction mode and depth inter-prediction mode.

Abstract: Methods, apparatuses, and computer-readable media are provided for splitting one or more merged blobs for one or more video frames. For example, a merged blob detected for a current video frame is identified. The merged blob includes pixels of at least a portion of at least two foreground objects in the current video frame. The merged blob is associated with a first blob tracker and a second blob tracker. A shape of the first blob tracker can be adjusted. For instance, adjusting the shape of the first blob tracker can include shifting at least one boundary of a bounding region of the first blob tracker based on the shape of the merged blob. The merged blob can be split into a first blob and a second blob, with the first blob being associated with the adjusted bounding region of the first blob tracker and the second blob being associated with a bounding region of the a second blob tracker. The first blob and the second blob can then be output for object tracking for the current video frame.

Abstract: Techniques and systems are provided for processing video data. For example, techniques and systems are provided for determining blob size thresholds. Blob sizes of blobs generated for a video frame can be determined. A lower boundary of a category of blob sizes can then be determined that corresponds to a minimum blob size of the video frame. The lower boundary is determined from a plurality of possible blob sizes including the blob sizes of the blobs and one or more other possible blob sizes. One of the possible blob sizes is determined as the lower boundary when one or more lower boundary conditions are met by characteristics of the possible blob size. A blob size threshold for the video frame is assigned as the minimum blob size corresponding to the lower boundary.

Abstract: In general, the disclosure relates to encoding and decoding a block of video data associated with three-dimensional (3D) video. A video coding device determines whether a depth condition associated with the block of video data should be set to valid within a coded bitstream. When the depth condition should be set to valid, the video coding device sets the depth condition to valid and encodes the block of video data using at least one camera parameter. The video coding device then determines whether the depth condition is valid. When the depth condition is valid, the video coding device decodes the block of video data using at least one camera parameter.
