Abstract:
In a disc assembly for supporting a ground engaging disc on a respective support arm of a vertical tillage implement, the disc supporting hub has an annular body rotatably supported on a shaft. The outer end of the annular body is enclosed by a cap and the inner end of the annular body is enclosed by an end plate fixed on the shaft relative to which the annular body is rotated. First and second annular flanges on the inner end of the annular body receive a tongue portion of the end plate therein so as to define a sinuous, narrow clearance gap where the annular body of the hub and the end plate of the shaft are in a non-contacting, rotatable relationship with one another. The sinuous, narrow clearance gap minimizes penetration of soil and residue therethrough to the interior of the hub where bearings are located.
Abstract:
A tillage disc assembly for use with a fully-integrated tillage implement including two modes of transportation: a working implement mode and a transportation mode, wherein the disc assembly includes an air spring and a thrust bearing for superior conformity to the field surface and protection of the disc itself. The shank can be adjusted to numerous angles for desired earth working performance. Each disc assembly is individually mounted to the frame.
Abstract:
A hub-bearing assembly is disclosed, wherein the hub-bearing assembly is used for rotatably mounting a tilling disc about an axis of rotation is disclosed. The hub-bearing assembly comprises an annular hub comprising an axially extending tubular portion defining a cylindrical housing and an outer flange for mounting a disc, a bearing unit mounted in the housing, and an elastic damping body arranged in the housing and radially interposed between the hub and an outer ring of the bearing unit.
Abstract:
A disk assembly for an agricultural implement includes a hub; a disk mounted to the hub; an axle having outer threads; a sleeve having inner threads engaged with the outer threads on the axle; and a bearing assembly having an outer race adjacent the hub and an inner race adjacent the sleeve.
Abstract:
A pivot assembly is provided for attaching a closing wheel frame to a planter. The closing wheel frame has a pair of closing wheels attached at a rear end and a pair of mounting openings formed at a front end. The pivot assembly includes ball bearings having outer races fit loosely within each of the mounting openings of the closing wheel frame. The inner races of the ball bearings are secured to the planter frame using threaded nut and bolt assemblies. The closing wheel frame is pivotal relative to the planter frame during normal operation by relative movement between the inner and outer races of the bearing. Variations of the mounting openings in the closing wheel frame are disclosed, including a tubular part, heavy washer or other annular structure welded to an outside surface of the closing wheel frame, or a bearing housing formed integral with the closing wheel frame.
Abstract:
An improved planter gauge wheel arm hub assembly which reduces the effects of wear on gauge wheel hubs and shafts and the resulting looseness between the gauge wheels and furrow disks. A preferred embodiment of the invention utilizes a threaded attaching stud and a threaded adjustment stud to carry a disc spring which applies a continuous force on the wheel arm hub.
Abstract:
A bearing assembly has first and second trunnions supporting a bearing and defining a trunnion pivot axis. In the improvement, each of the trunnions is mounted in and supported by a separate cushion member of annular shape. The assembly permits bearing pivoting about the trunnion pivot axis (i.e., about the X axis) and the cushion members permit limited freedom of movement of the trunnions in axes (i.e., the Y and/or Z axes) which are angular to the pivot axis. The new bearing assembly is ideal for use on an earth-working implement such as a disc harrow.
Abstract:
A dredge apparatus with an improved cutter includes a hull, a boom extending from the hull, and a cutter element rotatably mounted at the free end of the boom. The cutter element is positioned adjacent a suction line that is supported by the boom. The improved cutter element includes a plurality of rings having large open central portions for transmitting material to the suction. At least a pair of rings are spaced apart, one of the rings being supported using a rotary hub and spokes to a drive shaft. The external periphery of each of the rings carries three circumferentially spaced helical vanes. The helical vanes extend circumferentially and from ring to ring beginning at a front ring and ending at a rear ring which is adjacent the boom. Each of the vanes is "V-shaped" in transverse cross section providing a concave and a convex vane surface. The concave surface of each vane faces the suction line. The convex surface of each vane faces the front of the cutter element.
Abstract:
An improved double disk blade opener assembly and disk blade therefor are provided for a grain drill or the like. A pair of bearings are supported on opposite sides of a seed boot casting or arm structure mounted on the implement. Each bearing supports a threaded shaft which extends outwardly therefrom to a blade-receiving end. A pair of generally flat disk blades each fabricated from a single piece of sheet metal and having opposed outwardly cupped central portions to accommodate the bearings are secured on and rotate with the shafts. Mounting the bearings in the boot rather than in bearing caps on the blade decreases the overall width of the opener and increases trash flow between adjacent openers. Socket screws which previously were used to secure the blade assembly to the boot, which required tapping of the boot and which frequently worked loose therefrom are eliminated. The specially shaped disk blades retain the desired furrow cutting characteristics of conventional flat disk blades.
Abstract:
A dynamically self-aligning bearing and seal for use with agricultural groundworking tools which are exposed to contaminated environments and severe shock loadings. The improved bearing utilizes a spherically-shaped support housing and spherically-shaped outer race ring that are slidably engaged to permit dynamic oscillating movement of the outer race ring relative to the support housing. A multi-lipped seal is carried by the outer race ring and includes first lips extending radially inwardly to wipingly seal the anti-friction ball bearings against contaminates. A thicker second lip of the seal extends radially towards the inner surface of the housing and acts to frictionally and yieldably resist rotating and oscillating movement of the outer race ring relative to the housing. The second lip further serves to seal against entry of contaminates between the two spherically-shaped and interacting surfaces.
