Abstract: An electrode assembly according to the present disclosure includes one or more unit cells each equipped with a pair of electrodes having different polarities with a separator interposed therebetween, an electrode mixture coated on one or both surfaces of the pair of electrodes, and electrode tabs located on the edges of the respective electrodes and not coated with the electrode mixture, and the electrode tabs include an electrode parallel connection tab and an electrode lead connection tab, and any one or more of the electrode parallel connection tab and the electrode lead connection tab are formed on the electrodes, and an outermost electrode is a negative electrode.

Abstract: In a battery, each current collector tab includes a root portion, a connection portion, and an intermediate portion. Current collector tabs include a laminated connection portion in which the connection portions are laminated. A current collector terminal includes an inner surface facing a side surface portion of an electrode body, and a side surface disposed along an outer edge of the inner surface. A laminate film is disposed on the side surface. A main surface of the laminated connection portion is joined to the inner surface. In a plan view in an electrode body laminating direction, the current collector terminal includes a base portion including a first end portion corresponding to the position of the inner surface and a second end portion opposite to the first end portion, and a protruding portion protruding from the base portion to an opposite side of the base portion from the electrode body.

Abstract: Embodiments herein relate to simplified and space efficient designs for multiplate batteries. In an embodiment, an electrochemical cell is included having an multiplate anode and multiplate cathode with a separator to provide physical separation between anode and cathode plates. Anode collectors can be in electrical communication with each anode plate and anode tabs in electrical communication with each anode collector. Cathode collectors can be in electrical communication with each cathode plate and cathode tabs in electrical communication with each cathode collector. An anode busbar can interconnect the plurality of anode tabs in parallel and a cathode busbar can interconnect the plurality of cathode tabs in parallel. The cathode busbar can be oriented such that the cathode tabs are not disposed between the cathode busbar and the plurality of cathode plates. Other embodiments are also included herein.

Abstract: The invention relates to an electrochemical element and a battery comprising one or more electrochemical elements, with integrated sensors and/or actuators, in particular including an application for monitoring the operation of an electrochemical element or a Li-ion battery, and/or triggering actions in such an element or such a battery, intended to secure the element or the battery. The electrochemical element (1) comprises a closed shell (2) defining an internal volume and a beam (3) arranged therein having alternating positive and negative electrodes respectively connected to two positive and negative electrical output terminals housing separators, the beam (3) being impregnated with electrolyte and further connected by connection means (4) to one (5) of the electrical output terminals. It further comprises one or mote self-powered sensor and/or actuator elements (20 to 24) each arranged in contact with one component selected from the shell (2), the beam (3), the connection means (4), and the output terminal (5), and capable of measuring a physical or chemical magnitude relative to, and/or generating a physical action or effect on, the surroundings thereof.

Abstract: A secondary battery includes: an electrode assembly; an electrode lead; a battery case with an accommodation portion for the electrode assembly and a sealing portion sealing the accommodation portion; and a lead film. The sealing portion includes a connection-sealing region connected to the accommodation portion, a front end-sealing region, and a reinforcement-sealing region therebetween. The reinforcement-sealing region includes a compressed surface, provided in the sealing portion between the connection-sealing region and the front end-sealing region and recessed into the sealing portion, and raised surfaces, provided in the sealing portion between the connection-sealing region and the compressed surface and between the front end-sealing region and the compressed surface and each of which is formed thicker than the compressed surface. The battery case has a resin layer, a metal layer, and an insulating layer. The resin layer of the raised surface is formed thicker than the resin layer of the compressed surface.

Abstract: Provided is a method for welding an electrode assembly comprising stacking a plurality of electrodes to manufacture the electrode assembly, attaching a buffer tab to a surface of an outermost electrode tab of the electrode assembly, and welding a lead such that a plurality of electrode tabs and the lead are in contact with each other to dispose the buffer tab therebetween. The electrode assembly comprises the stacked plurality of electrodes comprising the lead welded to the plurality of electrode tabs, and each electrode tab of the plurality of electrode tabs protrudes in one direction from the plurality of electrodes. The buffer tab may be attached, before the welding, to the surface of the outermost electrode tab to minimize or prevent damage to the electrode tab due to pressure applied by a welding rod.
