    摘要： The invention relates to a method of homogenization of a pressured liqueform emulsion, such as milk. The liquid is caused to pass at least two concentrically placed homogenization gaps (12, 13) which are form in the space between two narrow surface (10, 11)on a fixed valve seat (2) and two narrow surfaces (14, 15) on a movable valve cone (1). When the liquid passes out the homogenization gaps (12, 13) a first homogenization takes place. The homogenization is rendered more efficient in that the liquid, when it passes out from one of the homogenization gaps (12) at high speed and in a restricted space meets the liquid out from one or more of the other homogenization gaps (13).

    摘要： An extensional flow mixer especially for viscous liquids has a housing with an end inlet connectable to a pressurized source of the liquids, and an outlet at an opposite end of the housing. A mandrel located in the cavity has protrusions with sloping side surfaces, the outer edges of which cooperate with the internal surface of the cavity to divide the cavity into a series of chambers separated by slits, such that liquid passes successively through all the chambers and slits in moving from the inlet to the outlet. The slits have cross-sectional areas which decrease in the liquid flow direction. The mandrel sides have helical grooves forming passageways with the housing wall which allow liquid to be distributed evenly around the edges of the mandrel to the inlet end or upstream chamber. The mandrel may rotate to provide additional shear mixing.

    摘要： A mixer for viscous liquids having an inlet for connection to a pressurized source of the liquids and an outlet for the mixed liquids. A series of chambers are arranged between the inlet and the outlet, these chambers being separated by several convergent/divergent surfaces providing narrow openings between said chambers. The openings are in the form of slits defined by the inner edges of dies which also form the convergent/divergent surfaces upstream and downstream of the slits. The chambers include parallel sided portions which allow for quiescent flow of liquid through these portions. At least some of the dies are movable to adjust the width of the slits. Preferably, the dies and chambers are annular and concentric, and the liquids pass radially inwardly through the narrow openings during mixing and are subjected to increasing stress as they progress through the slits.

    摘要： A homogenizer comprises a homogenizing valve mounted to a pump block. The pump has multiple plungers housed in a set of pump chambers formed through a surface of the pump block. Sets of suction valves and discharge valves are positioned in valve bores formed through the block intersecting the pump chambers. During homogenization, each plunger reciprocates in a pump chamber to draw fluid through a suction valve and the pump chamber and discharge that fluid through a discharge valve and subsequently to the homogenizing valve. The homogenizer has a plurality of seals located along its fluid flow path and positioned to have a surface exposed directly to the fluid. As such, the homogenizer is characterized by the absence of recessed seals along the fluid flow path and provides an internal geometry in which microorganism growth and fluid residue buildup are minimized.

    摘要： A homogenizer comprises a homogenizing valve mounted to a pump block. The homogenizing valve includes a valve seat and a valve member positioned adjacent to the valve seat forming a gap through which fluid is expressed during homogenization. The homogenizer also comprises magnetostrictive actuator assembly which maintains a process pressure by controlling the size of the gap. The actuator assembly includes a magnetostrictive member which is coupled to the valve member and a generator for applying a magnetic field to the magnetostrictive member. The presence of the magnetic field produces magnetostriction of the magnetostrictive member which causes actuation of the valve member, thereby adjusting the size of the gap.
