A surgical method for loading ligament grafts into a joint. A longitudinal socket formed in a bone is intersected by a transverse pin. A flexible strand is drawn with the pin through the bone. A looped portion of the strand is diverted so as to protrude out of the entrance to the longitudinal socket. The ends of the strand remaining accessible on either side of the bone. The ligament graft is captured within the strand loop protruding from the entrance to the socket. The strand is retracted into the socket, drawing the graft into the socket by pulling on the accessible ends of the flexible strand. The graft is fixed in the socket using a transverse implant.
Abstract:
A method and device are disclosed for retrieving embolic coils used for treating an aneurysm of a patient. The method comprises the steps of providing a wire device that is pushable through a microcatheter and has a flexible distal portion comprising distal collapsible arms with a latch member carried by one of the arms. The microcatheter is introduced into a patient's vessel leading to the aneurysm. The wire device, distal end first, is introduced into the microcatheter whereby the arms collapse while they are within the microcatheter. The distal end of the wire device is pushed through the microcatheter whereby the arms open when they extend out of the distal end of the microcatheter. The latch member is manipulated so that it engages an embolic coil to be retrieved. The latch-engaged embolic coil and wire device are withdrawn through the catheter, whereby the arms become collapsed as the arm is withdrawn through the catheter, securing the latch and the embolic coil.
Abstract:
A surgical clamp system including a clamp, a delivery/retrieval device, and an actuator is provided. The clamp includes a pair of jaws actuatable relative to each other from a fully open to a fully closed position. The delivery/retrieval device is detachably connected to the clamp, and is operable by a surgeon to deploy the clamp, retrieve the clamp, or both. The actuator cooperates with the delivery/retrieval device and engages the clamp, and is operable by the surgeon to open and close the jaws of the clamp. The delivery/retrieval device and the actuator are operable to securely lock the jaws of the clamp in any position between the fully open and the fully closed positions, both during and after being detached from the delivery/retrieval device.

A surgical clip removal instrument having operative surfaces at the distal jaws that directly compress the legs of a latched surgical clip and upon limited closure movement differentially elongate the clip legs to achieve an unlatched condition. Upon release of the jaws, the inherent resiliency of the clip outwardly biases the legs while maintaining contact with the jaws, allowing removal of the clip from the surgical site in a single piece.

A ligation clip remover removes closed ligation clips from a ligated vessel. The remover includes a handle assembly having a squeezable trigger and a slender barrel assembly connected to the handle assembly. A clip separating mechanism is connected to a distal end of the barrel assembly, and a shaft is slidably disposed in the barrel assembly for operating the clip separating mechanism when the trigger is squeezed.

A surgical device particularly directed toward the endoscopic repair of inguinal hemas is disclosed. The device includes of a specially adapted surgical mesh and a mechanical means for attaching the surgical mesh to the pubic bone. The surgical mesh is mechanically attached to the pubic bone by an orthopedic screw and the peripheral margins of the mesh either sutured or stapled to the appropriate anatomical structures. The screw is held by the distal end of an inner tube which is positioned inside an outer tube providing an annular space therebetween. The surgical mesh is wrapped around the distal end of the inner tube and the screw and is held in place in the annular space. An actuator tool is placed in the inner tube to provide torque to the screw.

A surgical apparatus for removing fasteners from the body includes an endoscopic portion for insertion through an endoscopic tube and a fastener removing assembly positioned at the distal end of the endoscopic portion. By engaging a fastener with the fastener removing assembly, a surgeon can actuate the assembly and cause the fastener to distort to a configuration suitable for removal from the body.
