摘要: A compression screw driver system including a drive member having a shaft extending from a proximal end to a distal end. A drive selection member is positioned about the shaft and is axially moveable along the shaft between an engagement position and a disengaged position. A distal portion of the drive selection member defines a first engagement structure. A compression sleeve is positioned over the distal end of the shaft. The proximal end of the compression sleeve defines a second engagement structure which complements the first engagement structure and the distal end of the compression sleeve defines a contact surface. In the engagement position the first and second engagement structures are engaged and the compression sleeve rotates with the drive member and in the disengaged position the first and second engagement structures are disengaged and the compression sleeve remains stationary while the drive member rotates.

摘要: An insertion device for deploying an implant includes an elongated main body having a distal locking portion for coupling to the implant and a proximal handle portion. The main body defines a central passage and the distal locking portion has outer ridges and slots to allow the outer ridges to flex radially inward when mounting to the implant. A plunger slides in the central passage for movement between an unlocked position for mounting the implant on the distal locking portion, a locked position for locking the implant on the distal locking portion, and an insertion instrument deployed position for deploying the actuation plunger to move the blades from the stowed position to the deployed position. A spike cap drive rotatably mounts on the main body having a socket end for engaging a drive nut on the implant to, in turn, move the spike cap.

摘要: Systems, tools, and screws for reducing a bone fracture are disclosed. In embodiments, the system comprises: a screw, a driver, a sleeve comprising a longitudinal bore configured to enable insertion of the driver through the sleeve, a locking mechanism configurable into a first state that locks the sleeve to the driver and a second state that unlocks the sleeve from the driver, and a retaining sleeve coupled to a first end of the driver and configured to couple to the screw. In the first state, the sleeve applies a compressive force while distal threads of the screw are driven into the bone while retaining proximal threads of the screw in the sleeve. After a desired compression is achieved, the locking mechanism is configured to the second state, allowing the proximal threads of the screw to be driven into the bone while maintaining application of the compressive force to the bone.

摘要: A rod reducer assembly is provided and is selectively mountable to a pedicle screw assembly. The pedicle screw assembly includes a pedicle screw housing that defines a rod-receiving recess. The pedicle screw assembly includes an extension assembly that is coupled to the pedicle screw housing by a frangible member. The rod reducer is configured to reduce a spinal rod into the rod-receiving recess of the pedicle screw assembly. The rod reducer assembly may include a derotation sleeve configured to inhibit the frangible member from breaking while manipulating a spinal bone.

In some embodiments, the temporary encasement comprises a biocompatible material that may be an osteoinductive, a hemostatic and or a bacteriocide. Some embodiments include a temporary encasement including a therapeutic. In some embodiments, the temporary encasement comprises a wax. In some embodiments, the screw head is substantially U-shaped. In some embodiments, the screw includes an extension tip extending from the screw shaft. Some embodiments of the invention include a system for percutaneous implantation of a bone screw including a screwdriver shaft rotatably coupled to a screw that includes a temporary encasement. In some embodiments, the screw shaft can be at least partially rotated by the screwdriver shaft. Some further embodiments further include a retractable sleeve at least partially surrounding the screwdriver shaft and the bone screw.

The bone screw includes a sleeve that has an internal female screw thread configured to mate with the second male screw thread. A distal portion of the sleeve has an outer diameter. The outer diameter is equal to or smaller than the minor diameter of the distal section of the shaft.

摘要: A system for fastening soft tissue to bone includes a bone screw having a threaded shaft and a screw head having an underside with malleable protuberances that project toward a distal end of the threaded shaft. A fixation plate is coupled with the threaded shaft. The fixation plate has a proximal face that opposes the underside of the screw head, a distal face that faces away from the underside of the screw head, an outer peripheral edge that extends between the proximal and distal faces, a central opening for receiving the threaded shaft, and protrusions spaced from one another around the outer peripheral edge that extend distally beyond the distal face of the fixation plate. The system includes an insertion tool having a handle and a tubular shaft extending distally from the handle. The tubular shaft has a proximal shaft section having an inner diameter that closely matches an outer diameter of the screw head, and a distal shaft section having an inner surface with a groove that seats the outer peripheral edge of the fixation plate for releasable retaining the fixation plate within the distal shaft section.

摘要: A method includes inserting a first surgical device into an exposed first end of a first bone until a trailing end of the first surgical device is disposed adjacent to the first end of the first bone. A second surgical device is inserted into an exposed first end of a second bone while the first surgical device remains disposed within the first bone. A first portion of an implant is advanced into the second bone while being engaged with a passageway defined by the implant such that the implant is guided by the second surgical device. The second surgical device is removed from the second bone and from its engagement with the implant. The first bone is repositioned such that the first surgical device is aligned with the passageway defined by the implant, and the first bone is forced into engagement with a second portion of the implant.
