    摘要: Orthopedic compositions are provided that include a homogeneous mixture of a biocompatible polymer and a bioactive particulate ceramic wherein the ceramic has an average particle size of not more than 500 nm are provided. The compositions may be used to form bone cement or various spinal implants, including spinal spacers, interbody fusion cages, bone plates and bone screws. Methods for stabilizing a spine, for correcting a bone defect, and for promoting fusion of adjacent vertebrae are also provided.

    摘要: This invention relates to orthopedic implants and to methods of treating bone defects. More specifically, but not exclusively, the present invention is directed to non-metallic implants and to methods for intra-operative assembly and fixation of orthopedic implants to facilitate medical treatment. The non-metallic implant assembly can be secured to underlying tissue by a fastener, such as a bone screw, that is capable of swelling on contact with fluid in the underlying tissue. Alternatively, the non-metallic implant assembly can be assembled intra-operatively using a fastener that is adhesively bonded to a bone plate or the bone plate can be deformed using heat, force or solvents to inhibit withdrawal of the fastener. In preferred embodiments, both the fastener and the bone plate are formed of biodegradable material.

Also, embodiments include an implant with at least one tissue contacting surface and at least one secondary surface where tissue attachment is not desired, and appropriate tissue attachment promoting or inhibiting treatments on the surfaces.

    摘要: A sacro-iliac implant includes a body extending from a first portion having an outer surface configured for fixation with a sacrum to a second portion having an outer surface being spaced apart and non-continuous with the outer surface of the first portion. A sleeve is disposed about the body and configured for implantation within at least an ilium. The sleeve extends from a first portion to a second portion having an inner surface and a flange disposed to engage an outer non-articular surface of the ilium. The inner surface of the second portion of the sleeve is engageable with the outer surface of the second portion of the body to cause axial translation of the body relative to the sleeve such that naturally separated articular surfaces of the sacrum and ilium are drawn into fixation to immobilize the SI joint. Methods of use are disclosed.
