A terminal has a lower plate and an upper plate and is accommodated in a groove portion of a connector housing. A covered wire is inserted between the lower plate and upper plate. When a cover is mounted over the groove portion, a protrusion of the cover presses the terminal so that the upper and lower plates are closed. By ultrasonic vibration, a covering portion of the covered wire is melted and removed and cores are pinched between the upper and lower plates and held. An engaging pawl is engaged with the upper plate thereby the pinching condition of the cores being held. As a result, even if contacting load is reduced due to a change of the temperature or like reason, the contact condition between the covered wire and the cores are securely maintained.

The electrical contact device establishes electrical contact with a tubular electrical port that opens through an edge surface of a composite structure. The electrical contact device includes a contact pad having opposed inner and outer surfaces. The outer surface is formed of an electrically conductive material, while the inner surface is formed of an insulating material. The electrical contact device also includes an electrically conductive pin attached to and extending outwardly from the electrical contact pad such that the pin is in electrical contact with the outer surface of the pad. Upon insertion within a tubular electrical port, the pin serves to establish electrical contact between the tubular electrical port and the conductive outer surface of the contact pad, while the insulative inner surface serves to insulate the electrical contact device from the composite structure. The tubular electrical port is also electrically connected to an electrical lead that is embedded within the composite structure such that the electrical lead is effectively connected to the contact pad upon insertion of the pin into the tubular electrical port. By aligning the edge surfaces of a pair of composite structures such that the contact pads of the respective composite structures are also aligned, a number of corresponding pairs of contact pads can be brought into contact at the same time, thereby providing simultaneous interconnection of respective leads embedded within each of the composite structures.

The translatable sleeve assembly includes a locking assembly located at a first end of the translatable sleeve assembly. Also, the translatable sleeve assembly includes a main sleeve portion attached to the locking assembly, and the main sleeve portion includes insulator end cap receivers located at a second end of the translatable sleeve assembly for engaging an insulator end cap when the translatable sleeve assembly is translated away from the drive element. The wire twisting and capping apparatus is used for twisting bare ends of a plurality of conductors into an intertwined unitary conductor end structure and for installing an insulator end cap onto the intertwined unitary conductor end structure.
