The invention relates to a method for winding pre-oriented, non-crystalline polyester filaments onto a spool at a winding speed of at least 4,200 m/min, in which the wound filament is wound over the width of the spool by means of a flying traverse arm and is turned by a driven sensing roller with an applied pressure between 8 and 18 kg on the circumference of a spool placed on a driven spool-locating pin. The filaments for winding are introduced to the traverse thread guide at a thread tension of between 0.03 cN/dtex and 0.20 cN/dtex. The sensing roller is driven at an overspeed of preferably between 0.3 and 1.2%, in comparison with the spool circumferential speed. The thread laying angle is set between 3.5° and 7.5° by means of the spool travel. The above method permits a good spool formation even at high spooling speeds.

A method and apparatus for controlling the yarn tension of yarn being cross-wound onto a bobbin on a textile winding machine. The amount of yarn on a supply package from which yarn is unwound is determined optoelectronically, gravimetrically or by measuring the yarn tension. The winding speed of the bobbin is adjusted in response to the determined yarn amount of the supply package so as to maintain the yarn tension substantially constant during unwinding. The winding speed of the bobbin can be controlled to follow a predetermined winding speed program which corresponds to the determined mass of the supply bobbin. To determine the yarn amount gravimetrically, the supply package is weighed by a balance device as it is conveyed thereover by a conveyor. The movement of the balance in response to the mass of the supply package can be electronically transmitted to a control device which prepositions a cam having a profile corresponding to the predetermined winding speed program. The rotation of the bobbin is then electronically controlled in response to the movement of a cam follower which follows the cam.

A bobbin-type winder for winding a synthetic yarn at a constant speed is disclosed. The winder includes a bobbin shaft having a bobbin mounted thereon and a bobbin shaft driving apparatus, operably connected to a first inverter, for rotating the bobbin shaft. The winder further includes a traverse device for traversing the yarn supplied to the bobbin, and a contacting roll arranged such that it is movable into contact with the circumferential face of a yarn package wound on the bobbin. The contacting roll is driven via a second inverter and a rotational speed detector is provided for detecting the rotational speed of the contacting roll. A controller is electrically connected with the bobbin shaft driving apparatus and the rotational speed detector for controlling the rotational speed of the bobbin shaft in accordance with the detector rotational speed of the contacting roll. The second inverter is isolated from the controller so that a torque applied from the outer surface of the yarn package to the contacting roll is minimized.

A yarn winder provided with a long spindle (1) having a length of, for example, more than 800 mm, and free from vibration even when used at a high working rotation is provided by various aspects of the present invention. According to a first aspect, the dynamic unbalance of the spindle (1) is corrected by field-balancing in at least three planes including the mid-portion of the spindle (1) by an influence coefficient matrix method. According to a second aspect, the respective spindle (1, 14) mounted on a revolving drum (9) has a natural frequency different from each other so that no resonance occurs when the two spindles (1, 14) are rotated at substantially the same rotational speed. According to a third aspect, a bobbin holding portion (2) of the spindle (1) is formed by two cylindrical hollow bodies (103, 104) each having shorter length that can be easily machined without eccentricity. The rearward cylindrical hollow body (104) has a thicker wall thickness in a region closer to a connection (130) to the forward cylindrical hollow body ( 103) and a thinner thickness in a region farther therefrom, so that a weight of the cylindrical hollow body (104) does not adversely influence the vibration of the spindle. Also, an improved method for donning bobbins (115a through 115d) on the spindle (1) without eccentricity by the use of a stop (124) for providing a vacant distance (P) adjacent to the topmost bobbin (115d) before the same occupies a normal working position.
