    摘要: An apparatus for decelerating descending bodies includes a tubular arrangement vertically disposed or steeply inclined secured at its upper-end to an elevated location. The bodies to be transported are guided down through the tube which retards their movement. Within the wall of the tubular arrangement there is at least one extensible chamber filled with pressurized fluid and having associated with it pressure regulating means, which chamber serves to apply a retarding force to a descending body. The walls of the tubular arrangement are flexible and include a sleeve whereof the wall is non-extensible in the longitudinal and/or axial direction.

    摘要: A diverter valve assembly that diverts flowable material from an inlet to one of a plurality of outlets. An outer tubular housing has an inner element mounted therein for rotation with respect to the housing about a generally vertical axis of rotation. The inner element is in the shape of a truncated cone. An inlet is provided at the top of the housing and a plurality of outlets are spaced around the sides thereof. A diverter element is rigidly mounted to the inner element and extends through the open top of the inner element and through a side thereof -- 90.degree. from the open top -- to cooperate with one of the plurality of outlets. Outlet arm members extend through the housing and make sealing contact with the outer surface of the inner element. Rotation of the inner element to position in cooperation with a particular outlet allows the flow of flowable material through the housing inlet, through the diverter element, and through the particular outlet arm.

    摘要: Flow control apparatus and method for controlling the flow of gravity fed substantially cylindrical objects through a gravity runway wherein a starwheel, a star-shaped ferrous pulse rotor and a ferrous rotor are each spaced from each other and axially fixed to a free wheeling shaft mounted in a frame connected to a gravity runway such that the starwheel lobes jut into and rotate through the gravity runway. Each starwheel lobe engages each of a successive line of gravity cans as the cans fall through the runway. A magnetic sensor is mounted on the frame near the star-shaped pulse rotor such that as cans free fall past the starwheels and rotate the free wheeling shaft star points on the pulse rotor rotate past the sensor and disturb the sensor's emitted magnetic field. For each disturbance, the sensor emits an electrical pulse signal. Each pulse signal is transmitted to stator coils which extend radially inward on a fixed stator housing concentrically surrounding the rotor such that each pulse signal is capable of magnetically attracting a rotor pole to a stator pole thereby retard rotation of the rotor for the duration of the pulse signal. If the voltage amplitude of the pulse signal exceeds a pre-set threshold voltage a signal of controlled duration is transmitted to energize all of the coils and stator poles to momentarily attract the rotor poles and retard the can flow through the runway.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for conveying workpieces under the influence of gravity from an upper vertical level to a lower vertical level wherein the workpieces have exposed critical, e.g., machined, surfaces which must be protected from contact from other workpieces and from the conveying apparatus itself. A first track has a plurality of rolling separators mounted therein and a second track, adjacent and parallel to the first track is provided to support the workpieces by contacting non-critical portions thereof. The separators have projections which extend into the path of those workpieces in the second track. The separators are interposed between the workpieces, and the projections on the separators maintain the workpieces in a spaced-apart relationship and advance the workpieces along the second track. At the bottom of the second track, only the workpieces are discharged from the conveying apparatus and the separators are recirculated to the upper vertical level of the apparatus for reuse.

    摘要: A bottle orienting device in which axially-spaced bottles of random orientation are propelled against a resilient surface such as, for example, the bristles of a brush mounted in a delivery chute. The recoil of the bottles from the brush depends upon their initial orientation. If the mouth or open end of a bottle is foremost it recoils less sharply from the recoil point than if the closed bottom is foremost. The dwell of the mouth end of the bottle at the recoil point permits gravity, or other forces, to act upon the bottle so that it rotates in one direction and moves along the delivery chute in the bottom-first position. If the closed end of the bottle is foremost the bottle rebounds from the recoil point causing the mouth end to encounter an impedance, whereby gravity rotates the bottle in the other direction so that it also moves along the delivery chute in the bottom-first position.
