摘要： A sensor for a positive or negative acceleration responsive switch for detecting an acceleration exceeding a predetermined level applied to a moving body. A bowl having a reverse conical wall at its upper peripheral surface is mounted horizontally to the moving body, and a turning coil which forms a part of an oscillator circuit is disposed at the lower portion of the bowl. Within the bowl, a conductive medium such as metallic ball or conductive liquid, e.g., mercury is placed so that it is displaced under an acceleration applied in any horizontal direction. The acceleration may be detected based on the distance of the conductive medium from the tuning coil.

摘要： A threshold accelerator switch is mounted on an object to indicate when the object is being subjected to a predetermined acceleration. The emitter and base terminals of a transistor are connected across the switch contacts. When the object is subjected to a predetermined acceleration, the switch contacts close causing the base electrode of the transistor to be shorted out, thus turning off the transistor. A plurality of switches and transistors can be mounted on a single object in order to measure the acceleration profile of the object.

摘要： A multidirectional sensor for a passive restraint system for a vehicle. The sensor includes a housing and a mass in the form of a disk located in a cavity defined within the housing. The disk is free to move in the cavity from an initial position to one of a number of actuation positions under the influence of a ''''g'''' force created in a collision situation. The sensor acts as a switch in an electrical circuit. The switch is open when the disk is in the initial position and closed when the disk is in one of the actuation positions. A spring is secured to the disk to retain the disk in the initial position and resist movement of the disk to one of the actuation positions. The spring is designed and arranged so that, in any direction of movement of the disk, the resultant or composite movement of the spring mass is in the same general direction as the movement of the disk so that the time it takes the disk to move to one actuation position is relatively equivalent to the time it takes the disk to move to any other actuation position. In the preferred embodiment, the spring comprises a thin metal band prestressed to wind upon itself; the band is wound around the periphery of the disk with its free end anchored to the housing so that the disk is normally held against a suitable backing surface by the band. In a collision situation, the disc, during movement to an actuation position, rotates and partially unwinds itself from the band.

摘要： An automobile having a series of passenger-restraint devices including electrically-actuated inflatable air bags mounted at preselected locations in the passenger compartment is provided with apparatus which operates to actuate selected ones of the restraint-devices in response to front, rear or side collisions. The apparatus comprises an inverted hollow conical housing which contains a free ball and which is divided into quadrants by separate arcuate electrical contacts mounted inside and along the rim of the housing. The contacts are connected by means of circuits to the restraint devices so that in a collision the ball rolls up the conical wall of the housing and engages the contacts to close the circuits and thereby to actuate the devices. In one embodiment, the housing is divided by a diametrically-extending partition which bisects opposed ones of the contacts and a ball is mounted on each side of the partition so that when the apparatus is mounted in an automobile with the partition extending sideward of the vehicle, each ball is capable of engaging contacts corresponding either to the left or the right and the front or rear bags.

摘要： There is described a crash switch which can sense acceleration forces that operate for some period of time such that the product of acceleration and time exceeds some predetermined level before the switch is actuated. The switch utilizes rollers supported by a band wrapped around the rollers, in which movement of the rollers along the band actuates switch contacts to signal movement of the rollers over a predetermined distance. In one modification, change in the center of gravity of the rollers is used to shift the direction of maximum sensitivity to the accelerating force. A single calibration adjustment, by shifting the initial position of the rollers, controls both the level of acceleration force required to move the rollers and the acceleration-time product level required to trigger the switch to the nominal design levels.

摘要： A roller-band device which utilizes a single roller with a flexible band encircling it and having its ends extending generally in opposite directions therefrom. The band has complimentary cutout and solid portions, preferably a pair of spaced leg portions at one end of the band and a tongue portion disposed between and having a width somewhat less than the space between the two leg portions at the other end whereby the band is wrapped around the roller and the tongue passes between the spaced legs without touching them. The roller and band are movable together along a predetermined path and may be used for performing various electrical switching functions. Opposite ends of the band decline from the plane on which the roller moves and form an acute angle therewith so that a high-contact force is obtained between contact surfaces on the roller and on the frame. A unique frame and housing means renders the device easily assembled and calibrated and then encloses the device. Also disclosed is a roller-band device with multiple rollers spaced along a common band.

摘要： A sensor includes a cylindrical housing having an apertured planar base wall and contact plate. An axial pole magnet is mounted on the base wall and located normal to the aperture. The magnetic flux of the magnet maintains a ball in seated relationship within a ball seat provided by the embossed opening of the apertured plate. The OD of the ball is greater than that of the magnet. A contact ring is mounted on a circular sidewall of the housing and includes a peripheral series of integral cantilevered thin flexible axially tapered spring fingers which extend radially of the ball seat and overlie the contact plate in spaced relationship. The distal portions of the fingers terminate radially outwardly of the ball seat and are spaced from the contact plate a distance greater than the OD of the ball. An intermediate portion of each finger is spaced from the contact plate a distance substantially equal to the OD of the ball. The contact plate and the contact ring are connected to a source of power and a mechanism to be actuated. Upon an acceleration pulse of predetermined amplitude and time being applied to the ball, the ball moves radially outwardly of the ball seat and into wiping engagement with the contact plate and at least one of the spring fingers to complete the circuit across the source of power and the mechanism to be actuated. The wiping engagement of the ball with the intermediate portion of the one finger flexes the one finger about its proximal portion and creates a spring biasing force returning the ball toward the ball seat when the acceleration pulse is reduced. A cover for the housing seats on the sidewall and includes a stop projecting transverse of the distal portion of the fingers and overlying the ball seat to limit movement of the ball axially of the seat.
