Abstract:
Method for trim in place thermoforming of articles from successive portions of a continuous sheet. Each sheet portion is sealed and a rounded flange formed therein prior to forming the container by advancing a rounded mold portion into an opposing resilient surface with the sheet interposed therebetween, while simultaneously substantially separating each sheet portion from the remainder of the sheet. Separating is by means of a blade which preferably is heated and has depressions in it surface to prevent completely separating each portion from the sheet. The blade may optionally operate against another opposing resilient surface.
Abstract:
A compliant stamping tool for stamp forming a workpiece includes a support structure, a fluid and a deformable membrane. The support structure includes a support wall spaced from a stamping axis. The support wall defines a chamber with an opening. The fluid is disposed within the chamber. The deformable membrane is secured to the support wall, covers the opening and seals the fluid within the chamber. The deformable membrane defines a compliant stamping surface configured to oppose different non-compliant stamping surfaces of opposing stamping tools. A system for stamp forming a workpiece includes a first stamping tool and the compliant stamping tool. The first stamping tool defines a first non-compliant stamping surface extending from the stamping axis. A method for stamp forming a workpiece is also provided.
Abstract:
A method of forming a flat composite charge into a contoured composite part reduces wrinkles in the part as the charge is being formed. Dies are used to form a portion of charge to the steepest contour of the part, while tension is maintained on the charge as the remaining portions of the charge are formed.
Abstract:
A flexible-die forming apparatus includes a piston, a coil, an upper die, a magnetorheological elastomer, and a lower die having a cavity formed thereon. The upper die is arranged to be overlappedly rested on top of the lower die. The piston is movably received in the receiving cavity of the upper die. The magnetorheological elastomer is mounted at a lower portion of the piston, and is received in the receiving cavity of the upper die. The coil is provided and wounded on an exterior surface of the upper die and the lower die.

Abstract:
The invention relates to an apparatus for shaping deep-drawn containers, having a female die which has a conical recess and interacts with a male die body which, as the male die body dips into the female die, comes into an operative connection with a deformable material web, wherein the male die body consists of a male die ring which is composed of elastic material and a male die carrier. According to the invention, it is provided that the male die ring is arranged such that it can be moved with respect to the male die carrier in a plane perpendicularly with respect to the movement direction of the male die body.
