摘要： A breath-powered, dry powder inhaler, a cartridge, and a pulmonary drug delivery system are provided. The dry powder inhaler can be provided with or without a unit dose cartridge for using with the inhaler. The inhaler and/or cartridge can be provided with a drug delivery formulation comprising, for example, a diketopiperazine and an active ingredient, including, peptides and proteins such as insulin and glucagon-like peptide 1 for the treatment of diabetes and/or obesity. The dry powder inhaler is compact; can be provided in various shapes and sizes, colors, and comprises a housing, a mouthpiece, a cartridge placement area, and a mechanism for opening and closing the medicament cartridge. The device is easy to manufacture, provides a pre-metered single unit dose, it is relatively easy to use, and can be reusable or disposable.

摘要： A breath actuated dry powder inhaler, comprising a substantially disc shaped air circulation chamber for de-agglomeration of entrained powdered medicament using the energy of the inspiratory air stream. The chamber has a substantially circular or polygonal sidewall extending about a central axis between top and bottom walls of the chamber so that the height of the chamber is smaller than its diameter. A plurality of air supply channels disposed about the circumference of the chamber, which channels extend from joint or separate air inlets and which channels enter the chamber substantially tangentially to its sidewall. At least one of the supply channels extends through a powder dose supply region of the inhaler. The chamber further comprises an air outlet axially extending from a discharge opening in the centre of the top or bottom wall of the chamber and connects to a discharge channel that extends to a mouthpiece. The inhaler comprises at least one further air circulation chamber for de-agglomeration of entrained powdered medicament, the chambers being connected to the mouthpiece in parallel.

摘要： There is provided a dose counter for use with a medicament dispenser. The dose counter comprises a first count wheel arranged to rotate about a first axis of rotation, the first count wheel including a set of primary drive teeth arranged annularly thereon for drivable rotation of the first count wheel about the first axis of rotation; a second count wheel arranged to rotate about the first axis of rotation, the second count wheel including a set of secondary drive teeth arranged annularly thereon; and a kick wheel arranged to rotate about a second axis of rotation offset from the first axis of rotation, the kick wheel including a set of kick teeth arranged annularly thereon and in meshed relationship with the set of secondary drive teeth of the second count wheel such that rotary motion of the kick wheel results in rotary motion of the second count wheel. The first count wheel further includes a fixed index tooth arranged for intermittent meshing with the kick teeth of the kick wheel such that rotary motion of the kick wheel results from rotary motion of the first count wheel only when the intermittent meshing occurs.

摘要： A dry powder inhaler has a dispersion chamber containing beads. A dose of dry powder is released into the chamber, or into an inlet tangentially joining into the chamber. As the patient inhales on a nosepiece or mouthpiece, air moves circularly through the dispersion chamber to drive the beads. The beads roll, bounce, and collide repeatedly with the drug particles on the chamber surfaces or on the beads. The smaller active drug particles are separated from larger carrier particles and from each other, and a powder aerosol is created and inhaled by the patient. The beads are preferably lightweight, so that they can be rapidly accelerated and moved, even with nominal inspiration. The flow resistance of the inhaler is also reduced via the beads, allowing greater airflow and powder dispersion, without any increased effort by the patient.

摘要： Described is a dry powder inhaler comprising an intake section; a mixing section, and a mouthpiece. The mouthpiece is connected by a swivel joint to the mixing section, and may swivel back onto the intake section and be enclosed by a cover. The intake chamber comprises a special piston with a tapered piston rod and spring, and one or more bleed-through orifices to modulate the flow of air through the device. The intake chamber further optionally comprises a feedback module to generate a tone indicating to the user when the proper rate of airflow has been achieved. The mixing section holds a capsule with holes containing a dry powder medicament, and the cover only can open when the mouthpiece is at a certain angle to the intake section. The mixing section further opens and closes the capsule when the intake section is at a certain angle to the mouthpiece. The mixing section is a Venturi chamber configured by protrusions or spirals to impart a cyclonic flow to air passing through the mixing chamber. The mouthpiece includes a tongue depressor, and a protrusion to contact the lips of the user to tell the user that the DPI is in the correct position. An optional storage section, with a cover, holds additional capsules. The cover for the mouthpiece, and the cover for the storage section may both be transparent, magnifying lenses. The capsules may be two-part capsules where each portion has apertures which correspond to apertures in the other half when each half is partially fitted to the other half, and fully fitted to the other half. All the apertures may be closed when the two halves are rotated around their longitudinal axes with respect to each other. Each capsule may have a unique key on each half that only fits with a particular inhaler.

摘要： There is provided a medicament dispenser for containing plural elongate form medicament carriers, each having multiple distinct medicament dose portions carried thereby, the dispenser having a housing of generally non-circular form, and within said housing a dispensing mechanism for dispensing the distinct medicament dose portions carried by each of said plural medicament carriers. The mechanism comprises at least one receiving station for receiving each of the plural medicament carriers; a release for releasing in combination a distinct medicament dose portion from each of the plural medicament carriers on receipt thereof by said receiving station; an outlet, positioned to be in communication with the distinct medicament dose portions releasable by said release; and at least one indexer for individually indexing the distinct medicament dose portions of each of the plural medicament carriers. The dispenser contains plural elongate form medicament carriers, each having multiple distinct dose portions carried thereby. At least one of said medicament carriers has the form of a continuous loop.
