Abstract:
Certain aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communications, and more specifically to enhanced paging procedures for devices with limited communications resources, such as machine type communication (MTC) devices and enhanced or evolved MTC (eMTC) devices. An example method generally includes determining a set of subframes corresponding to a paging occasion for the UE to receive a paging message from a base station (BS), determining, within the set of subframes, at least one narrowband region for receiving the paging message, and monitoring for the paging message in the at least one narrowband region within the set of subframes.
Abstract:
In order to improve efficiency in releasing a connection with a user equipment, a method, apparatus, and computer-readable medium are presented herein. A RAN receives release assistance information from a user equipment or a User Plane Function (UPF) involved in an active session with the user equipment. The release assistance information may be received over a control plane or over a user plane. The release assistance information may be received from the user equipment or the UPF over the user plane or as Radio Resource Control (RRC) signaling. The release assistance information may be received from an application function via the UPF. The RAN determines to release the user equipment based on the release assistance information.
Abstract:
A method of wireless communication by a user equipment (UE) without a radio resource control (RRC) connection to a base station includes receiving system information from the base station and transmitting a data communication to the base station over a control plane without establishing an RRC connection with the base station. A UE in an RRC suspended state may transmit a data communication to the base station over a user plane without resuming an RRC connection with the base station. The data communication may comprise data and UE identity information and/or a cause indication. A base station may indicate resources in the system information for the transmission of the data communication information and receive the data communication over the control plane without establishing an RRC connection with the UE or over a user plane without resuming an RRC connection with an RRC suspended UE.
Abstract:
A method includes sending communication data from a user equipment (UE) to a base station (eNB) during a random access procedure prior to establishment of a radio resource control (RRC) connection between the UE and the base station. Methods may allow a UE to use a message 1 (Msg1) communication or a message 3 (Msg3) communication to send data to a base station prior to the establishment of the RRC connection between the UE and the base station. Other aspects, embodiments, and features are also claimed and described.
Abstract:
Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to methods and apparatus for handling mobility between areas with heterogeneous network slices in wireless communications systems operating according to new radio (NR) technologies. An exemplary method that may be performed by a UE includes receiving an indication that a network slice is not available, entering a connection management idle (CM-IDLE) state, and initiating a registration procedure with an access and mobility management function (AMF) subsequent to entering the CM-IDLE state.
Abstract:
Neutral host networks may offer one or more different services via one or more different service providers, but user equipment (UE) may not necessarily know which services/service providers are offered by the neutral host networks. Accordingly, nodes of the neutral host networks (e.g., an access point, such as an evolved Node B (eNB)) may transmit service discovery information (SDI) to advertise the one or more services or service providers offered by the node and/or the neutral host network. Thus, a UE can receive the SDI via broadcast by the node, dedicated message from the node, etc., and can accordingly present at least a portion of the SDI or determine whether to connect to the node or another node of the neutral host network based at least in part on the SDI.
Abstract:
Aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques that may be used wireless network communication devices to support devices operating with extended discontinuous reception (eDRX). An exemplary method, performed by a BS, generally includes determining at least one paging hyper-frame for paging a user equipment (UE) based on an identification (ID) of the UE, the paging hyper-frame determined from a set of periodically occurring hyper-frames that each span a number of radio frames, receiving a request to page the UE, and transmitting a paging signal to the UE in at least one subframe within a radio frame of the paging hyper-frame. Another exemplary method, performed by a UE, generally includes determining at least one paging hyper-frame for monitoring for a paging signal from a base station (BS) based on an identification (ID) of the UE, the paging hyper-frame determined from a set of periodically occurring hyper-frames that each span a number of radio frames, and monitoring for the paging signal in at least one subframe within a radio frame of the paging hyper-frame.
Abstract:
Various aspects described herein relate to maintaining data continuity for a user equipment (UE). A request can be received at a first node of a first network from at least one of a second node of the first network or a second network to update a location of the UE. A type of the request can be determined based at least in part on an identifier in the request. The request can be acknowledged without instructing a third node of the first network or the second network to cancel a context of the UE based at least in part on the type of the request.
Abstract:
Aspects described herein relate to detecting wireless network services. A network that advertises access to a service provider network via a cellular radio access technology (RAT) in an unlicensed frequency can be discovered at a user equipment (UE). The UE can then determine one or more user-defined or operator-defined policies related to selecting the network, and select the network for access based at least in part on the one or more user-defined or operator-defined policies.
Abstract:
Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide methods, apparatus and computer program products for uplink traffic prioritization, by a user equipment (UE), within the same bearer. According to certain aspects, a method for wireless communications by a user equipment (UE) is provided. The method generally includes receiving information regarding prioritization per bearer, receiving an uplink scheduling grant for uplink traffic, assigning the uplink scheduling grant to a bearer based on the information, and prioritizing the uplink traffic within the bearer based on one or more rules.
