    Abstract: Apparatuses for selecting communication beams based on normalized times of arrival (ToA) of reference signals (RSs) are disclosed. An apparatus of a first cellular communication device includes a data storage device configured to store reference signal data identifying a plurality of reference signals corresponding to a plurality of communication beams used by a second cellular communication device. The apparatus also includes one or more processors configured to process a received portion of the plurality of reference signals received from the second cellular communication device through at least a portion of the plurality of communication beams, normalize ToAs of one or more reference signals of the received portion of the plurality of reference signals to a time period unit; and identify which of the plurality of communication beams correspond to the one or more reference signals using the reference signal data.

    Abstract: User Equipment (UE), computer readable media, and methods to modify communication channel measurement timing based on a mobility of the UE are disclosed. The UE may include circuitry configured to determine a plurality of signals from one or more cells, determine a first value for a first performance metric associated with a first cell of the one or more cells, wherein the first value is determined from a first measurement, select the first cell for a first communication based on the first value, determine first location information associated with the UE, determine, following the first measurement and using the first location information, that the UE is stationary, and delay, in response to the determination that the UE is stationary, a second measurement of the first performance metric. In various alternate embodiments, different measurement types may be used for mobility and channel quality determinations. In further embodiments, only measurements for unused channels may be delayed.

    Abstract: Techniques for improving observed time difference of arrival (OTDOA) positioning are discussed. One example apparatus employable in an eNB comprises a processor, transmitter circuitry, and receiver circuitry. The processor is configured to: generate a set of positioning reference signals (PRSs); and encode the set of PRSs for a multi-antenna transmission. The transmitter circuitry is configured to transmit the set of PRSs via the multi-antenna transmission. The receiver circuitry is configured to receive a set of reference signal time differences (RSTDs) from a user equipment (UE) in response to the set of PRSs. The processor is further configured to estimate a position of the UE based at least in part on the set of RSTDs.

    Abstract: Techniques for observed time difference of arrival (OTDOA) positioning based on heterogeneous reference signals (RSs) are discussed. One example apparatus configured to be employed within a user equipment (UE) comprises receiver circuitry, a processor, and transmitter circuitry. The receiver circuitry can receive, from each of a plurality of evolved Node Bs (eNBs), one or more RSs of each of a plurality of distinct types of RSs. The processor can determine, for each of the eNBs, a time of arrival (TOA) of the one or more RSs of each of the plurality of distinct types of RSs; and compute, for each of the eNBs, a reference signal time difference (RSTD) based at least in part on the TOAs of the one or more RSs of each of the plurality of distinct types of RSs. The transmitter circuitry can transmit the RSTD computed for each of the eNBs.

    Abstract: Technology described herein provides carrier-monitoring (CM) signaling approaches that can be used by networks and/or mobile devices. An evolved Node B (eNB) can send an IncMon-support message indicating whether a network supports the increased-number-of-frequencies-to-monitor (IncMon) feature. A UE can apply a default CM configuration if the UE does not receive an IncMon-support message from the eNB. The eNB can use dedicated signaling or broadcast signaling to inform a UE of a default CM configuration or one or more adopted CM configurations that are used in the network. The eNB can also send a list of carriers that are to be monitored to the UE. The UE can also send UE-capability information to the eNB, such as a default CM configuration, an adopted CM configuration, or configurable configurations in different radio access technologies (RATs) supported by the UE.

    Abstract: In an embodiment, an apparatus to be employed in a user equipment (UE) is described.
