    摘要: The cylindrical enclosure 12 of a recuperator 10 as in FIG. 2 contains an annular coaxial heat exchanger 50 full of cooling liquid 22 circulating therethrough. Exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine flows from an inlet end 32 through the heat exchanger 50, first in an axial region 15 via a conduit 14, then back through a surrounding annular region 18, then through tubes 37 to an outlet end 34. The inlet 30 and outlet 31 for the gas are in the side wall 40 of the cylindrical body 12, and the exhaust gas 11 enters and leaves via conduits 14 and 19 that are perpendicular to the side wall 40 at the inlet 30 and at the outlet 31. So the ends 41 and 42 of the body 12 are free of adjacent obstruction, and at least one of them is removable, as in FIG. 4 or FIG. 5 . Thus, the recuperator 10 can be opened and closed to make the interior accessible for inspection, cleaning, or other desired purpose.

    摘要: A composite structure of elastic and viscoelastic components in which dynamic loads are effectively damped by transmission through the viscoelastic components. The structure includes a continuous sandwich comprised either of a single elastic layer enclosed by two viscoelastic layers or of a single viscoelastic layer enclosed by two elastic layers such that the sandwich has little stiffness in any intended direction of loading, and two segmented elastic layers having stiffness in a desired loading direction. The segmented layers have alternating segments and gaps and are disposed one on each side of the viscoelastic layer in such a manner that the gaps of one segmented layer overlap the segments of the other segmented layer. Dynamic loads in the loading direction are transmitted back and forth from one segmented layer to the other, through the continuous sandwich layer containing the viscoelastic material, which thereby provides a high degree of damping. Static loads in the loading direction are transmitted through the elastic material in the continuous sandwich layer. By appropriate selection of elastic materials, the structure can be made suitable for the damping of loads in all directions while maintaining considerable strength and static stiffness. Appropriate selection of fiber orientations can increase the damping effect on either axial and bending loads, or on torsional loads.

    摘要: In the field of viscoelastic dampers, a new strut design comprises a viscoelastic material sandwiched between multiple layers, some of which layers bear and dampen load force. In one embodiment, the layers are composite plies of opposing orientation. In another embodiment, the strut utilizes a viscoelastic layer sandwiched between V-shaped composite plies. In a third embodiment, a viscoelastic layer is sandwiched between sine-shaped plies. Strut strength is equal to or greater than conventional aluminum struts due to the unique high interlaminar shear ply design.

    摘要: An apparatus for damping a plurality of vibrations applicable to an apparatus for mounting a vehicular engine on a vehicle body. The apparatus comprises: (a) a first block; (b) a second block; (c) a block member for damping first vibrations having high frequencies and having large amplitudes, the first vibrations being generated and transmitted from the first block to the second block; and (d) at least one viscous shearing force resistance generator for damping second vibrations having low frequencies and large amplitudes, the second vibrations being generated and transmitted from the first block to the second block and from the second block to the first block. The viscous shearing force resistance generator is formed within the block member. The viscous shearing force resistance generator, e.g., comprises: (a) a cavity formed within the block member; (b) a viscous fluid having a high viscosity filled within the cavity; and (c) at least one shearing resistant element disposed within the cavity with minute gaps against the opposing inner wall surfaces of the cavity.
