The additive concentrate comprises: (a) a lubricating oil; (b) a lubricating oil soluble sulphurized alkaline earth metal hydrocarbyl phenate modified by incorporation of from greater than 2 to 35% by weight based on the weight of the composition of either (i) at least one carboxylic acid having formula (I), ##STR1## wherein R is C.sub.10 to C.sub.24 alkyl or alkenyl group and R.sup.1 is either hydrogen, a C.sub.1 to C.sub.4 alkyl group or a --CH.sub.2 --COOH group, or an anhydride, acid chloride or ester thereof or (ii) a di- or polycarboxylic acid containing from 36 to 100 carbon atoms or an anhydride, acid chloride or ester thereof, the composition having a TBN greater than 300. A process for making the foregoing additive concentrate is disclosed. A finished lubricating oil composition containing the foregoing additive concentrate is also disclosed.
摘要:
A process of preparing an overbased composition by the reaction of oil soluble organic acids with oxides or hydroxides of, e.g., zinc, copper, cadmium, transition metals, etc. to form a salt. Additional oxides or hydroxides are added along with boric acid and promoters. These overbased metal borates are useful in lubricating oils and fuels.
摘要:
Dispersant detergent additives for lubricating oils prepared by neutralization, carboxylation, sulfurization-overalkalinization, carbonation, distillation, filtering and degassing from alkyl phenols containing 35-85% by weight of linear alkyl substituents. The process does not require, during the neutralizing phase, the presence of a third solvent, which, by forming an azeotropic mixture with water promote the elimination of water arising from the neutralizing reaction. The additives of the invention have improved stability to hydrolysis and improved dispersion properties, improved compatibility and improved foaming properties.
摘要:
A petroleum additive having excellent storage stability and heat stability, which comprises an alkaline earth metal salt of aromatic hydroxycarboxylic acid containing a higher aliphatic carboxylic acid, a higher aliphatic amine or a higher aliphatic amide, or a sulfurized mixture thereof. A process for improving storage stability, heat stability and viscosity character of the petroleum additive.

摘要:
An improvement in a method of lubricating an alcohol-based fuel engine with an engine oil composition, the improvement which comprises using as said composition an engine oil composition comprising a lubricating base oil and about 0.01 to 10% by weight based on the total weight of the engine oil composition of an alkaline-earth metal borate. Thus prepared engine oil compositions for alcohol-based fuel engines of the present invention are superior to the prior art compositions in capacity for neutralizing formic acid, wear resistance, and stability against hydrolysis.
