    Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods, and apparatuses, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for wireless communication. In one aspect of the disclosure, a method of wireless communication includes determining, at a wireless device, a subset of antenna elements of a plurality of antenna elements to be used to communicate with a network entity in a second communication direction. The plurality of antenna elements is used to communicate with the network entity in a first communication direction. The method further includes transmitting, from the wireless device to the network entity, a message indicating that the subset of antenna elements is to be used to communicate in the second communication direction. Other aspects and features are also claimed and described.

A method that may be performed by a base station (BS) includes communicating with a plurality of user equipments (UEs) in a cell, configuring a plurality of wake-up signals (WUSs) to transmit to different groups of UEs of the plurality of UEs in the cell, wherein configuring the plurality of WUSs is based, at least in part, on a relative location of each of the UEs in the different groups of UEs, and transmitting the plurality of WUSs to the different groups of UEs.

    Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to millimeter wave (mmWave) device discovery for relay communication using pseudo-omnidirectional beams. A first user equipment (UE) may transmit a synchronization signal over each pseudo-omnidirectional beam to enable a second UE to discover a presence of the second UE within a range of the first UE. Upon the occurrence of an external event, a base station may either trigger a beam training procedure with the second UE to establish a relay link between the first and second UEs or broadcast a message to all UEs requesting a relay link be established with the first UE. The first and second UEs may then select a directional beam pair link (BPL) for the relay link and establish the relay link to enable information to be relayed between the base station and the first UE via the relay link.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A first wireless device may identify a collective antenna array that includes both a downlink antenna array and an uplink antenna array for communications with a second wireless device. Accordingly, the first wireless device and the second wireless device may perform a beam training procedure on the collective antenna array, and the first wireless device may then use beam weights identified for the collective antenna array as the beam weights for the specific downlink antenna array and the uplink antenna array. For example, the first wireless device and the second wireless device may perform downlink beam training to obtain a best downlink receive beam to use and then determine an uplink transmit beam to use based on the downlink receive beam.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A wireless device may dynamically select subsets of antenna elements within an array based on power consumption and link performance and/or a configuration of components at the wireless device. For example, a wireless device may identify an antenna array having multiple antenna elements, and the wireless device may select respective subsets of antenna elements (e.g., subarrays) for uplink and downlink transmissions. In such cases, the selection may be based on a tradeoff of power consumption at the device and link performance. Additionally or alternatively, the selection may be based on a configuration and/or constraints on a number of radio frequency (RF) components of the wireless device. The wireless device may communicate based on the dynamic selection of different subsets of antenna elements of an array for uplink and downlink communications.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A wireless device such as a user equipment (UE) may include multiple antenna arrays used to support wireless communications. The antenna arrays may be located at different parts of the UE and may allow the UE to flexibly perform beamforming communications. The antenna arrays maybe configured as antenna sets, and the size of each antenna set may vary based on the configuration of the UE. For example, a UE may include a foldable display having multiple foldable display units, and the communication parameters used for transmission and reception of signals via the antenna arrays may depend on the configuration of the foldable display units. In some aspects, a state of the foldable display units or the arrangement of the antenna arrays relative to one another may be used to configure and perform beamforming communications between the UE and a base station.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may receive configuration information from a base station that indicates a set of resources for the UE to establish sidelink communications with another UE in a wireless network. The UE may transmit a first set of reference signals using a first set of beams to determine a set of neighboring candidate UEs for a sidelink connection. The UE may then transmit a second set of reference signals on a second set of beams to the neighboring candidate UEs, and may select a second UE located in the determined neighboring set using various beam scanning procedures. The UE may identify a transmit beam associated with the second UE, and may establish the sidelink connection using the identified transmit beam.
