    Abstract: This disclosure relates to the set-up, activation, and deactivation of sidelink carrier aggregation, and includes a method and apparatus for transmitting or receiving a reference signal to a second UE on a designated sidelink component carrier as part of an initial beam scanning procedure; receiving a configuration message from a network entity indicating one or more additional sidelink component carriers for the first UE and the second UE; and communicating with the second UE via a sidelink corresponding to at least one of the one or more additional sidelink component carriers or the designated sidelink component carrier based on the configuration message on a sidelink beam pairing performed in the designated sidelink component carrier, wherein the first UE and the second UE are configured in coverage with the network entity.

    Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus for wireless communications that support fallback from a 2-step to a 4-step random access procedures. A user equipment (UE) may establish a connection with a base station using a random access procedure. The random access procedure may be a 2-step random access procedure and reduce a number of handover exchange messages. The 2-step random access procedure may include the UE transmitting, to the base station, a first random access message including a preamble and a payload. In some implementations, the base station may receive the preamble but fail to receive or decode the payload. The random access procedure may utilize the received preamble information instead of performing retransmission of the first random access message. The base station may transmit a second random access message to the UE indicating, explicitly or implicitly, a fallback to a 4-step random access procedure for connection establishment.

    Abstract: A method of wireless communication, by a first sidelink user equipment (UE), includes periodically receiving a set of sidelink beam failure detection reference signals (RSs) from a second sidelink UE. The method includes incrementing a beam failure detection (BFD) counter in response to one or more reference signals of the set of sidelink beam failure detection RSs having a received signal strength below a threshold. The first sidelink UE starts a beam failure detection timer in response to the reference signal(s) of the set of sidelink beam failure detection reference signals having the received signal strength below the threshold. Another method by a sidelink UE may periodically transmit a set of sidelink BFD RSs to another sidelink UE. The set of sidelink BFD RSs comprise one or more sidelink receive RSs. The sidelink UE configures the other sidelink UE with the sidelink receive BFD RSs.
