    摘要: An adapter for the finger appendage of a brass instrument has an adapter body. An outboard side and an inboard side of the adapter body are spaced apart along a width. The adapter includes a fitting portion defining the outboard side of the adapter body and a spacer portion defining the inboard side of the adapter body. The fitting portion defines a mounting opening configured to receive the first portion of the adapter body to mount the adapter body on the finger appendage such that the spacer portion is received in the finger gap and the inboard side of the adapter body opposes the second portion of the finger appendage to define a reduced gap having a width that is less than the width of the finger gap.

    摘要: An automated process designs an indoor wayfinding system using wireless beacons interacting with a mobile smartphone to guide a user to a destination. Image processing and computational geometric techniques extracting necessary information about an indoor space to determine beacon placement and support path computations for navigation. An architectural floor plan of the indoor space of interest is scanned to extract all the points of interest (doors, stairs, elevators, etc.), to identify walking paths within this space, and to create a connectivity graph representation of the space upon which path computations for navigation can be performed. Optimized locations where beacons should be placed on the indoor floor plan are identified very quickly and with minimal effort.

    摘要: A method includes obtaining information associated with a forming operation involving a manufacturing machine having a tool that contacts material. The method also includes simulating deformation of the material based on the information. Simulating the deformation of the material includes using discontinuity layout optimization to evaluate combinations of shear planes within an initial structure of the material, predict a mode of deformation comprising one or more of the shear planes along which the initial structure of the material will likely deform, and calculate a deformed shape of the material after an increment of deformation along the predicted mode of deformation. Simulating the deformation of the material also includes repeating the discontinuity layout optimization with the deformed shape of the material as the initial structure.

    摘要: The unnatural amino acid analogue 2-fluorohistidine (2-FHis) was incorporated into protective antigen to produce a protein which resists protonation at physiological pH by reducing the side-chain pKa. The protein structure was unperturbed by the incorporation of fluorinated histidine residues, and the heptameric (2-FHisPA63)7 could form ion conducting channels, and bind to the PA-binding domain of LF (LFN), but translocation of LFN in planar lipid bilayers was blocked. Further, while (2-FHisPA63)7 could bind to host cells and in vitro to the host cellular receptor, pore formation in the presence of the receptor was blocked, and LFN-DTA mediated cytotoxicity in CHO-K1 cells was blocked. The modified PA is useful as both a vaccine and an antitoxin, providing epitopes for the production of antibodies against PA, but preventing key steps in pathogenesis (pore formation, translocation).
