Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to a vehicle, or a device or system connected to the vehicle, that enables the vehicle to act as a base station in a wireless communication network. The vehicle includes an access interface transceiver configured to communicate with devices within its passenger cabin, and a backhaul interface transceiver configured to communicate with the wireless communication network. By acting as a base station, the vehicle can establish and provide connectivity between the devices in its passenger cabin and the wireless communication network via the access transceiver and backhaul transceiver.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are describe for signaling protocols for proximity service functions in a wireless communication system. A first wireless device may identify a wireless relay requirement associated with the first wireless device. A proximity service protocol may be initiated between the first wireless device and a second wireless device based at least in part on the identified wireless relay requirement. The proximity service protocol may be initiated prior to an initiation of a communication data exchange between the first wireless device and the second wireless device. A relay link may be established, via the ProSe protocol, between the first wireless device and the second wireless device based at least in part on the identified wireless relay requirement.

Abstract: A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for wireless communication are provided. The apparatus determines a first link quality. The first link quality indicates a link quality of a first link between a first potential relay UE and the remote UE. The apparatus determines a second link quality. The second link quality indicates a link quality of a second link between the first potential relay UE and a first base station. The apparatus ranks the first potential relay UE relative to a second potential relay UE. The ranking of the first potential relay UE is based on a combination of the first link quality and the second link quality. The apparatus selects one of the first potential relay UE and the second potential relay UE for a relay connection based on the ranking of the first potential relay UE relative to the second potential relay UE.

Abstract: Techniques are described that support techniques for directional discovery in a millimeter wave communications system. A vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communications system may support beam discovery procedures that use directional beams to discover other entities, establish directional communication links with other entities, or maintaining directional communication links with other entities. The beam discovery procedure may include a sweep pattern where a transmitting entity may probe with directional beams in a plurality of beam directions. During a beam discovery procedure a transmitting entity may transmit discovery signals in a plurality of different directions and a receiving entity may listen for the discovery signals in a plurality of different directions. The sweep patterns of the transmitting entity and the receiving entity may be coordinated to increase a likelihood that the receiving entity will discover the transmitting entity.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are described for wireless communication. A user equipment (UE) may receive configuration information for a multimedia broadcast service including a group communication identifier and a priority indicator. The UE may then convey the information in a monitoring request to a relay UE. In some cases the information may be conveyed using the Proximity-based Service (ProSe) signaling protocol. The relay UE may use the configuration information to relay broadcast to the receiving UE. If the relay UE receives multiple priority indicators associated with the same group communication identifier (e.g., from different receiving UEs) it may use the highest priority or the most recent priority.

Abstract: Techniques for scheduling assignment (SA) transmissions in device-to-device (D2D) communications are described. A D2D user equipment (UE) may use a block of time resources for SA transmissions. A D2D UE may transmit an SA transmission relatively quickly after determining that D2D data is to be transmitted to another D2D UE, relative to having to wait for specified time resources to send an SA transmission. The D2D data may then be transmitted following the SA transmission, reducing latency for transmission of the D2D data. It may be desirable for vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) transmissions to have a relatively low latency to provide data from one vehicle to another with sufficient time for a vehicle to take action while moving at relatively high rates of speed.

A user equipment (UE), e.g., a lead platooning vehicle configured for wireless communications, may determine a communication resource requirement for a group of platooning vehicles. The communication resource requirement may be based at least in part on a number of vehicles forming the group of platooning vehicles and a communication range of at least a portion of the vehicles. The UE may identify, based at least in part on the identified communication resource requirement, an assignment of time-frequency radio resources to use for inter-vehicle communications in the group of platooning vehicles. The UE may transmit an indication of the assignment of time-frequency radio resources to the group of platooning vehicles.
