Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communications and, more particularly, to methods and apparatus for rate-matching a stream of bits encoded using polar codes. An exemplary method generally includes determining a target coding rate, RT, for transmitting a group of K information bits, based on a first coding rate, R1, corresponding to a first target block error rate (BLER) for a first transmission of a first redundancy version (RV) of the packet and a second coding rate, R2, corresponding to a second target BLER for a last transmission of a last RV of the packet; determining a circular buffer size, N, of a circular buffer for use in transmitting the first RV and the last RV of the packet; generating encoded information bits from the K information bits using a polar code having a mother code size of N; writing the encoded information bits to the circular buffer; determining a maximum number of retransmissions, based on a latency requirement for the packet; generating different RVs from the encoded information bits in the circular buffer, each RV based on a corresponding target BLER; and transmitting the first RV via a wireless medium.

Abstract: The present disclosure describes various aspects of the implementation and design of Physical Downlink Control Channel (PDCCH) in 5G new radio (NR) applications. Aspects include methods, apparatuses, and computer-readable medium for one or more of multiple PDCCH search spaces, control resource block (CRB), irregular multiple slots or mini-slots grants, or fast control channel signaling for grant-free uplink (UL). For example, different scheduling entities can each have one or two search spaces defined (e.g., common and/or user equipment (UE)-centric search spaces). Also, CRBs can be used as units for PDCCH transmission instead of resource element groups/control channel elements (REGs/CCEs). In addition, irregularities in time domain, frequency domain, or both can be introduced in the granting of resource blocks (RBs) over multiple slots or mini-slots. Moreover, signaling can be used to indicate to a UE configured for grant-free UL the portion of the pool of resources available for grant-free UL.

Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to methods and apparatus relating to rate matching for new radio (NR) physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) and physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH). In certain aspects, a method includes receiving a rate matching resource (RMR) configuration from a serving cell. The method also includes identifying one or more first resource elements (REs) to be rate matched around at least in part based on a transmission numerology associated with the RMR configuration, wherein the one or more first REs are used for reference signal (RS) transmission in the serving cell or a neighboring cell. The method further includes mapping a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) to one or more second REs not including the first REs.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for increasing physical random access channel (PRACH) capacity using orthogonal cover codes (OCCs) in wireless communications systems are described. A base station may transmit a PRACH configuration that indicates PRACH resources for system access, for example, in a system information block (SIB). A user equipment (UE) may receive the PRACH configuration, and may identify PRACH resources that support OCCs for system access. For example, PRACH configurations with small time domain spacing between PRACH resources may support OCCs. The UE may determine whether to transmit random access (RACH) preamble messages using OCCs in the PRACH resources, and may transmit a RACH preamble message to the base station based on the determination. In some cases, the base station may additionally indicate PRACH resources not configured for OCCs, and the UE may determine which set of resources to transmit in based on one or more parameters.

Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure provide hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) techniques for enhanced machine type communication (eMTC). The method generally includes determining at least one subframe to transmit a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) to acknowledge one or more downlink transmissions based, at least in part, on availability of uplink subframes following one or more downlink subframes carrying the downlink transmissions to be acknowledged and transmitting the PUCCH in the determined at least one subframe.

Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to techniques for reducing the decoding complexity for low cost devices (e.g., low cost UEs). One technique may include simplifying the PDCCH format. This may include generating a compact DCI format for transmitting DCI to a low cost device. The compact DCI format may correspond to at least one standard DCI format used by a regular UE and may comprise a reduced number of bits when compared to the standard DCI format. Another technique may include reducing the number of blind decodes. This technique may include selecting a set of resources for transmitting DCI from a limited set of decoding candidates, such that a receiving low cost device need only perform blind decodes for the limited set of decoding candidates.

Abstract: In an aspect of the disclosure, a method, a computer-readable medium, and an apparatus are provided that may be configured to receive a downlink control message, to determine a beta offset value for transmitting UCI based at least in part on the downlink control message, and to transmit the UCI on an uplink shared channel interleaved with data based on the determined beta offset value. The apparatus may identify the beta offset from a set of values based on the downlink control message. An apparatus may identify resources allocated for PUSCH and may map UCI to the identified resources for PUSCH in a frequency interleaved manner over a bandwidth of the identified resources. The apparatus may map data to the identified resources in a time-first or frequency-first manner, and may transmit a signal comprising UCI and data on the identified resources of the PUSCH in accordance with the mapping.
