The vehicle generator having a circuit protective cover of present invention comprises a housing, an electric circuit device and a protective cover. The housing encloses a stator on which an armature coil is wound and a rotor located inside the stator to face each other. The electric circuit device is located outside the housing for rectifying AC induced in the armature coil to DC. The protective cover covers the electric circuit device. The protective cover is made of a composite material including a polyamide and an elastomer. It is desirable that the protective cover has a mechanical properties including: a maximum elongation of 10% or higher; and a Charpy impact strength with notch of 78 kJ/m2 or higher.

This invention provides a cogeneration system formed compactly and provided with a plurality of generators, wherein a plurality of miniaturized generators are coupled to a flywheel provided in an engine. In this cogeneration system, a toothed endless belt is meshed with a toothed portion formed on an outer circumference of the flywheel provided in an engine, and electric power is generated by driving a plurality of generators by the toothed endless belt via speedup gears. The electric power generated by the generators is synthesized and then transformed by a transformer, and the resultant electric power is consumed by a load via a rectifying diode and an inverter.

A rotor formed from a material having a high magnetic permeability (solid or laminated soft steel) is controlled in speed by controlling the magnitude and timing of the pulsed direct current (DC) supplied to the motor windings which may be wound on the stationary legs or the rotor. The current flow in the motor windings can be controlled by a mechanical commutator if the motor windings are on the rotor or by a solid-state converter if the motor windings are on the legs in a manner normally associated with brushless DC motors. The DC windings of the flux switch alternator can be replaced by permanent magnets since the reversing field in the AC output windings are predominantly time stationary.

The present invention relates to a generator system connected to an external A.C. power source for supplying electrical A.C. power to a load for prolonged periods when the external electrical A.C. power source fails. The system comprises a main A.C. generator unit capable of generating an A.C. potential at a selected frequency and voltage for the load, and an auxiliary A.C. generator is connected to the main generator for generating A.C. at a high frequency. This high frequency A.C. is conveyed to a relatively small high speed motor and flywheel unit in a sealed chamber, which unit at full speed can store large amounts of rotational kinetic energy. The high speed motor has a stator armature with a power winding and an excitation coil, and a cooperating rotor of soft magnetic material having a cylindrical surface with a layer of magnetizable permanent magnet material thereon. When energized with the high frequency A.C., the power winding causes the rotor to rotate as a hysteresis motor. When the external electrical A.C. power source fails, the excitation coil is energized with high frequency A.C. to magnetize the layer of permanent magnet material into a pattern of north and south magnetic poles which will enable the rotational kinetic energy of the rotor and flywheel to generate high frequency A.C. of constant frequency in the power winding which is supplied to the auxiliary generator to cause it to function as a synchronous motor to drive the main A.C. generator so that it will keep on producing the A.C. potential to the load.

A non-interruptible power system (NIPS) for generating polyphase A.C. of a substantially constant desired frequency and a substantially constant selected voltage, comprising:(A) a source of interruptible power and a motor energized thereby,(B) a novel generator for producing the desired polyphase A.C. driven by the motor, the generator comprising a plurality of field cores each having a cylindrical surface with a layer of magnetizable permanent magnetic material thereon, cooperatively juxtaposed wound stators each with an excitation coil therein for magnetizing an adjacent layer of permanent magnetic material into a pattern of magnetic poles and at a high remanent flux density, modifying windings for changing the remanent flux density in such pole pattern, supplementing windings for energizing the excitation coil, and primary potential generating windings in slots in the stator, a source of exciter current, and electrical control means for the generator,(C) the generator producing the desired substantially constant frequency A.C. at the desired voltage regardless of variations in the motor speed and even for a brief period of time when the source of power to the motor is interrupted by converting a part of its rotational energy to A.C. output, and leading windings, alone, or with lagging windings, in each of the wound stators having the primary windings, the leading and lagging windings being placed in such positions that, in a three-stator generator, they will each generate a single phase A.C. potential from about 110.degree. to 115.degree. out of phase with the single phase A.C. generated by the primary windings in the same stator, but the A.C. potentials of the leading windings and lagging windings of one stator will each be synchronous with the single phase A.C. potential developed in the other stators' primary windings, thereby obtaining three phase A.C. having a low total harmonic distortion.
