    摘要: The intake fuel charge of an internal combustion engine is heated by utilizing the heat from the exhaust gases which are controlled by a valve mounted on a shaft having a counterweight secured to the shaft to control rotation thereof. A stopper which is engaged by the counterweight is provided for limiting the extent of rotation of the shaft and a spiral bimetallic member is arranged with its inner end secured to the shaft and with its outer end adapted to engage the stopper during engine warm up at relatively low ambient temperature conditions. An engagement member is mounted on the bimetallic member to engage the stopper when the second end of the bimetallic member moves in the direction opposite the direction whereby it would normally engage the stopper. The engagement member may be mounted a distance spaced from the outer end or it may be secured in back-to-back relationship with a second stopper member being provided.

A bed of particulate material including fuel is supported by the grate and extends in the upper chamber. The lower chamber has an inlet for receiving pressurized air for passing through the lower chamber, the grate, and the bed of particulate material to fluidize the particulate material. An electrical heating unit is provided for preheating the air as it passes through the lower chamber to ignite the fuel material during startup.

    摘要: An ignition, warm-up and low-load-stabilization system for furnaces fired by pulverized coal. In conjunction with a system in which pulverized coal is sent directly from a coal mill to a load-bearing nozzle and in which combustion air is brought to the nozzles from an air preheater that uses hot furnace gases to warm the combustion air, ignitor nozzles are provided that are supplied by pipes bearing coal from which the drying air has been separated. Combustion air for the ignitor nozzles is heated by an independent heat source that heats the combustion air or a portion thereof to a temperature higher than that of the air supplied by the air preheater. Such a coal-fired ignitor burner can replace oil or gas-fired ignitors and warm-up guns and thereby reduce the amount of oil or gas used in ignition, warm-up, and low-load stabilization.

    摘要: The method disclosed includes injecting particulate fuel and a relatively small quantity of air into one end of a chamber so as to promote turbulence in the mixture during passage along the chamber to an outlet where ignition takes place. Further air is added to the mixture in the region of the outlet in sufficient quantities to permit full combustion of the entrained fuel when discharged from the outlet. Also disclosed are three alternative forms of apparatus each including a chamber for promoting turbulence. To effect turbulation, the air and fuel inlets are positioned to provide a cyclonic movement or suitable guides may be provided within the chamber to cause such movement.
