    Abstract: A varifocal lens includes a first phase plate including a plurality of first phase conversion elements having different sizes from each other, and a second phase plate including a plurality of second phase conversion elements having different sizes from each other, where the first phase plate and the second phase plate face each other along an optical axis and are movable relative to each other in a direction perpendicular to the optical axis to create displacement between the first phase plate and the second phase plate, and the plurality of first phase conversion elements and the plurality of second phase conversion elements are configured so that light transmitted through the first phase plate and the second phase plate is focused on different positions on the optical axis depending on the displacement between the first phase plate and the second phase plate.

    Abstract: A phase modulation device includes an upper reflective layer onto which incident light is incident; a lower reflective layer provided on a lower portion of the upper reflective layer; an active layer provided between the upper reflective layer and the lower reflective layer; a first electrode connected to an upper surface of the active layer; and a second electrode connected to a lower surface of the active layer, wherein the lower reflective layer may include a first distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) layer including at least one first low refractive material layer and at least one first high refractive material layer that are alternately stacked, and the at least one first low refractive material layer has a first refractive index and the at least one first high refractive material layer has a second refractive index that is greater than the first refractive index.

    Abstract: Provided are spatial light modulators, methods of driving and manufacturing the same, and apparatuses including the spatial light modulators. The spatial light modulator according to an example embodiment includes a substrate, a distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) layer stacked on one surface of the substrate, a cavity layer on the DBR layer, a pixel layer on the cavity layer and including a plurality of pixels, and a heat blocking member between the plurality of pixels to block heat transfer between the plurality of pixels, wherein a material layer having a lower thermal conductivity than the lowermost layer of the DBR layer is provided between the substrate and the DBR layer, and each of the plurality of pixels includes a plurality of active meta-patterns. In one example, the material layer, the DBR layer, and the cavity layer are each divided corresponding to the plurality of pixels, and the heat blocking member is provided between the divided material layers, between the divided DBR layers, and between the divided cavity layers.
