Abstract: Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a network controller may determine a first set of spreading sequences and a second set of spreading sequences for non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) communication, wherein the first set of spreading sequences is different than the second set of spreading sequences; and configure a first cell to use the first set of spreading sequences and a second cell to use the second set of spreading sequences; or configure the first set of spreading sequences to be used for first user equipment associated with a cell center of the first cell and the second set of spreading sequences to be used for second user equipment associated with a cell edge of the first cell or the second cell. Numerous other aspects are provided.

Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure provide for enhanced channel estimation in a wireless communication network. Uplink channel estimation may be enhanced by increasing the uplink transmit power of an uplink reference signal. For example, the uplink transmit power may be increased by multiplying a measured downlink path loss by a predetermined factor to produce an increased downlink path loss and calculating the uplink transmit power based on the increased downlink path loss. Downlink channel estimation may be enhanced by increasing a number of tones on a downlink reference signal assigned to a scheduled entity relative to the number of tones assigned to other scheduled entities.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A wireless device may divide a data stream into multiple data sub-streams. The wireless device may map the data sub-streams to a set of layers of a multi-layer modulated stream. The wireless device may encode, rate match, modulate, spread and scramble the set of layers before combining them into a combined data stream. The number of layers in the set of layers may be configurable. The wireless device may apply scrambling sequences to the layers. An additional phase rotation or power scaling factor may be applied to each layer. The layers may then be synchronized and combined into a combined data stream. A set of combined data streams may be mapped to multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO) layers. The wireless device may precode the MIMO layers, map the MIMO layers to tones, and transmit the combined data streams.

Abstract: A method for network selection in a cellular and WLAN interworked network may include determining, by a UE, an association state between the UE and a WLAN access point. The UE may select a metric of the access point, based at least in part on the determined association state. The UE may determine a value of the metric. The UE may determine whether to report the value of the metric to a base station of the cellular wireless network, based on various factors. These factors may include the association state, the value of the at least one metric relative to a threshold value, a change in the association state, or receiving a reporting instruction from the base station. The UE may report the value of the metric to a base station, based on its determination. A base station may perform operations complementary to the UE, for network selection.

For example, certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to a technique for controlling when the UE is placed in a low power state in the first RAN based, at least in part, on inactivity of the UE in the first RAN. Certain aspects of the present disclosure also relate to controlling when to modify one or more network bearers between the first RAN or the second RAN and the core network based, at least in part, on at least one of inactivity on the one or more network bearers or inactivity in both the first RAN and the second RAN. According to certain aspects, the first RAN may include a WWAN and the second RAN may include a WLAN.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are described for routing modification based on handover detection in UEs and network equipment. According to the principles of the present specification, communication between a User Equipment (UE) and a network equipment may be established over a first radio access technology (RAT) and a second RAT, and a coupling between the first RAT and the second RAT may be identified in the communication between the UE and the network equipment. A handover event associated with at least one of the RATs may be identified, and network traffic routing may be adapted based at least in part on the identified handover event and the coupling between the first RAT and the second RAT.

Abstract: A configuration to allow a base station to be synchronized with an application server to enable the base station to align uplink transmissions of a UE with downlink reception periods of the UE. The base station communicates with a UE using periodic uplink traffic bursts and periodic downlink traffic bursts. The base station selects a time offset to at least one of uplink traffic or downlink traffic to increase an overlap between the uplink traffic bursts and the downlink traffic bursts. The base station sends the time offset to an AF.

Abstract: A second base station may allocate a set of downlink resources for a downlink transmission. The set of downlink resources may include a subset of null resources, which may serve as a signature for the second base station. The second base station may transmit downlink data or reference signals on the set of downlink resources including the subset of null resources. A first UE may experience the downlink transmission from the second base station as interference. The first UE may identify the set of downlink resources. The first UE may identify the subset of null resources. The first UE may transmit, to a first base station, an indication of the subset of null resources. The first base station may identify the second base station based on the indication of the subset of null resources. The first base station may transmit, to the second base station, an interference coordination message.

A network node may determine a first time location associated with a peak in data traffic for multiple devices in communication with a communications network including the network node. The network node may determine a second time location for the peak in the data traffic for a subset of the devices based on a threshold for an overall peak in data traffic for the multiple devices. The network node may transmit a signal that indicates the second time location for the peak in the data traffic for the subset of devices. The network node may communicate the data with the subset of devices based on the signal indicating the second time location.
