Abstract: This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for improving the security of secure long training field (LTF) transmissions. In some implementations, a transmitting device may perform windowing on a secure LTF, in the frequency domain, so that the resulting time-domain LTF signal is difficult, if not impossible, to predict by any device that observes a portion of the LTF signal. In some aspects, the transmitting device may negotiate the windowing of secure LTFs with a receiving device based on fine timing measurement (FTM) negotiation frames exchanged at the start of an FTM procedure. In some other aspects, the transmitting device may dynamically or adaptively perform windowing on secure LTFs. In such aspects, the transmitting device may indicate whether windowing is performed on a secure LTF based on information carried in a signal field of a physical layer convergence protocol (PLCP) protocol data unit (PPDU) that includes the secure LTF.

Abstract: Generally, the described techniques provide for protection mechanisms for sounding training signals transmitted between wireless devices when performing ranging sounding estimation. For example, sounding training signals may be encoded to include a sequence of phase rotations or cyclic shifts to protect the sounding training signal from peer devices. In some cases, encoding information associated with a long training field (LTF) may be transmitted either before or after the LTF is transmitted. Additionally or alternatively, a time delay may be introduced to the sounding training signal, where timing information may be removed from one or more fields of the sounding training signal and the time delay may be appended to an interframe spacing. Alternatively, a frame may be split into multiple frames with the sounding training signal in a first frame, and timing information in a second frame that is offset in time from the first frame.

Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer-readable media, for serving AP selection in a network having multiple access points (APs). In one aspect, a serving AP selection unit can steer a device (such as a client station, STA, or a child AP) based on a quality of service profile (such as a capacity requirement or a delay requirement) of the device. The device may be initially associated with a first AP (as the current serving AP) in the network. The serving AP selection unit may select a second AP as a new serving AP for the device, and cause the device to associate with the second AP rather than the first AP. The selection of a serving AP may take into account delay or hop count in addition to path capacities for various paths in the network.

In one aspect, enhanced channel selection may combine a first channel selection process at a first AP (based on first channel selection by the first AP) with a second channel selection at a Multi-AP Controller. Coordination between the first AP and the Multi-AP Controller may improve a channel selection technique to optimize channel selection based on considerations of the overall network.

The method also includes generating a message indicating that the first electronic device is available to communicate with other electronic devices of the NAN and identifying the logical channel. The method further includes transmitting the message to a second electronic device of the NAN.

A wireless station (STA) may identify a scan period during which a passive scan procedure is performed on a first channel. The STA may analyze a channel congestion metric during at least a portion of the scan period. The STA may transition from the passive scan procedure to an active scan procedure on the first channel during the scan period based at least in part on the analyzed channel congestion metric.

Abstract: A method includes generating a service discovery frame at a first electronic device of a data link of a neighbor aware network (NAN). The service discovery frame may include an attribute identifying a subset of electronic devices of the data link as recipients of data from the first electronic device during a transmission window or identifying a time period corresponding to data announcements and timing information of data transmissions corresponding to the data link. The method further includes transmitting the service discovery frame to electronic devices other than the first electronic device.
