    摘要: A first substrate has at least scanning signal electrodes, video signal electrodes and pixel electrodes, all of which constitute display pixels, and active elements. A first alignment layer is formed, directly or via an insulating layer, as a top layer on the electrodes constituting the display pixels and the active elements. A second substrate which is bonded to the first substrate with a very small interval provided in between is provided with a second alignment layer that is formed so as to confront the first alignment layer. A liquid crystal layer is provided in a space between the first and second alignment layers. The electrodes constituting the display pixels are formed so as to apply, to the liquid crystal layer, an electric field that is substantially parallel with the surfaces of the first and second substrates and are connected to an external control device for controlling the electric field in accordance with a desired display pattern. Polarizing plates change an optical characteristic of light to be output from the second substrate in accordance with the alignment state of the liquid crystal layer that is produced by the electric field applied to the liquid crystal layer. At least one of the first and second alignment layers has been given alignment ability by illumination with polarized light.

    摘要: Electronic equipment of the invention includes a keyboard for inputting character data, a memory for storing the character data input from the keyboard, a printer for printing the character data stored in the memory, and a display for displaying the memory contents. The memory consists of a buffer for temporarily storing the character data, a cursor pointer indicating a cursor position on the display, an end pointer indicating a position immediately succeeding the position of the last character input from the keyboard, and a head pointer indicating the printing head position of the printer. The keyboard includes a relocation key in addition to various character input keys. When the relocation key is depressed, the cursor is moved to a position indicated by the cursor pointer, and when depressed again, the cursor is moved to the position indicated by the end pointer, thus facilitating correction of input errors.

    摘要: It is an object to provide a liquid crystal display which reduces unsatisfactory display caused by distorted initial alignment direction in a liquid crystal alignment layer for IPS type displays, realizes stable liquid crystal alignment, is high in mass-productivity, and produces high-quality images of increased contrast ratio. The liquid crystal display contains alignment layers 109 placed between a pair of substrates 101 and 102, at least one of which is transparent, liquid crystal layer 110′ sealed between the alignment layers, common electrode 103 and source electrode 105 for applying an electrical field to the liquid crystal layer, thin-film transistors connected to each of these electrodes, polarizer plate 114 provided on at least one of the substrates, wherein at least one of the alignment layers 109 is composed of a photo-reactive polyimide and/or polyamic acid which can be provided with a liquid crystal alignment capacity by being irradiated with essentially linearly polarized light.
