A brake pressure control apparatus for automotive vehicles with an anti-locking control system (ABS) and/or with a traction slip control system (TSS) is presented. In the inlet line to the wheel cylinder an inlet valve is provided which affords a change-over from an orifice function into a flow limiting valve function at a predetermined wheel cylinder pressure. Flow is initially through an orifice (6) in a control slide valve piston (20), held in its initial position by a prestressing spring (23) acting through an auxiliary piston in engagement with control slide valve piston (20). An increase in pressure in the wheel cylinder (13), also exerted in the wheel cylinder pressure chamber (9), to a predetermined level, causes the auxiliary piston (27) to disengage from the control slide valve piston (20), preventing the force of the prestressing spring (23) from acting on the control slide valve piston (20). As a result, the control slide valve piston (20) is free to reach an equilibrium position corresponding to the magnitude of the remaining forces acting upon the piston (20 ). A control edge (33) on the piston (20) establishes a flow cross-sectional area (34) which, upon the filling of the wheel cylinder (13), leads to a constant nominal flow rate within the lines (19, 11, 12) to the wheel cylinder (13). The invention is distinguished in that precisely defined pressure gradients, a better adaptation to the volume accommodating curve of the wheel circuit and a better exploitation of the pump characteristic are achieved.

A piston pump is described which adapts the output flow to the supply flow which is intended in particular for use in a hydraulic brake slip control apparatus, the pump having a pump housing (2) with working chambers (9, 10) which are connectible to supply lines via an inlet valve (5) and an outlet valve (6). Working pistons (15) defining in part the working chambers are cyclically movable to increase and decrease the volume of the working chambers (9, 10) and are guided in cylinder bores (11, 12) and driven by a an eccentric (14) in order to perform stroke movements. The cylinder bores (11, 12) also receive charging pistons (18) which also define in part the working chambers (9, 10) and which are movable to decrease the volume of the working chambers (9, 10) by way of compression springs (20) supported on the pump housing (2) and which, via a pin (21), can be pressed against the working pistons (15). The charging pistons (18) are limited in their movement out of the working chambers (9, 10) by stops on the pump housing (2). The charging pistons (18) are moved inwardly, overcoming the frictional grip of a seal (22) to reduce the working chamber volume and thus the flow rate of the piston pump in order to avoid cavitation, in the event that the quantity of pressure fluid delivered via the inlet valves (5) does not suffice to preserve a predetermined suction pressure in the working chambers (9, 10).

To ensure, in a compact structural design, a noise-minimizing hydraulic pressure source, while avoiding a flow back of pressure fluid from the brake system into the damping device, a check valve (28) is integrated into the damping device. A pressure valve is integrated with the check valve and damping chamber, with an elastomeric elastic member disposed in the damping chamber to absorb pressure pulsations.
