Abstract:
Disclosed are methods for detecting neoplastic or damaged cells and for detecting multidrug resistance in neoplastic or damaged cells by detecting an increase in the cell surface expression of a nucleophosmin (NPM) protein on the surface of such a multidrug resistant neoplastic or damaged cells as compared to the level of expression of the nucleophosmin protein on the surface of a normal cell.
Abstract:
A method and system of detecting vulnerabilities in source code. Source code is parsed into an intermediate representation. Models (e.g., in the form of lattices) are derived for the variables in the code and for the variables and/or expressions used in conjunction with routine calls. The models are then analyzed in conjunction with pre-specified rules about the routines to determine if the routine call posses one or more of pre-selected vulnerabilities.

Abstract:
The invention provides methods for the identification of agents that modify or mimic P protein function. Cells expressing a P protein are generally more sensitive to toxins, and changes in cell viability and/or cell death after exposure of P protein-expressing cells to an agent and a toxin is an indication that such an agent is a modifier of P protein expression. The invention also provides methods for the treatment of melanoma and other cancers.
Abstract:
An information management system is described including one or more workstations running applications to allow a user of the workstation to connect to a network, such as the Internet. Each application operates in conjunction with an analyzer, which monitors transmission data that the application is about to transmit to the network or about to receive from the network and which determines an appropriate action to take regarding that transmission data. Such actions may be extracting data from the transmission data, such as passwords and usernames, digital certificates or eCommerce transaction details for storage in a database; ensuring that the transmission data is transmitted at an encryption strength appropriate to the contents of the transmission data; determining whether a check needs to be made as to whether a digital certificate received in transmission data is in force, and determining whether a transaction about to be made by a user of one of the workstations needs third party approval before it is made. The analyzer may consult a policy data containing a policy to govern the workstations in order to make its determination. The information management system provides many advantages in the eCommerce environment to on-line trading companies, who may benefit from improvements to record-keeping, security and control over transactions.
Abstract:
A method of detecting non-uniform ellipsometric properties of a substrate surface involving: directing a measurement beam onto a spot at a selected location on or in the substrate; for each orientation of a plurality of different orientations of the reference beam relative to the scattered measurement beam, interfering the scattered measurement beam with the reference beam to produce a corresponding interference beam, wherein each of the different orientations of the reference beam is selected to produce a peak sensitivity for a portion of the scattered measurement beam that emanates from the object at a corresponding different diffraction angle of a plurality of diffraction angles; for each orientation of the reference beam, converting the interference beam into an interference signal; and using the interference signals to determine whether any non-uniform ellipsometric properties are present anywhere within a region on or in the substrate.
Abstract:
An optoelectronic circuit including: an IC chip made up of a substrate in which an optical waveguide and a mirror have been fabricated, the substrate having a first lens formed thereon, wherein the mirror is aligned with the optical waveguide and the first lens is aligned with the mirror to form an optical path connecting the first lens, the mirror, and the optical waveguide; and an optical coupler including a second lens, the optical coupler affixed to the substrate and positioned to align the second lens with the first lens so as to couple an optical signal into or out of the optical waveguide within the IC chip.
Abstract:
A software-based, integrated member decision support system provides a method for corporations, insurance carriers, health maintenance organizations, physicians, physician groups, or other clients to efficiently provide medical, pharmaceutical, and health benefit advice and information for an enrolled population. A caller is, for example, directed to an operator who provides the caller with medical, pharmaceutical, and/or health benefit advice based on an inquiry from the caller and the information stored on the system. The system may automatically alert the caller or the operator of important medical or pharmaceutical information. At the conclusion of the call, the system or the system with the operator's input, may updated the caller's member profile, request written materials, generate referrals, order prescriptions, or generate reports.
Abstract:
The invention provides sustained release formulations of metformin or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, and methods of treating diabetes by administering to a patient a therapeutically effective amount of a sustained release formulation of metformin or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to foldable polyolefin film compositions, comprising a blend of high density polyethylene, linear low density polyethylene, a magnesium silicate and an alkaline or alkaline earth metal carbonate, to foldable polyolefin films made from such compositions and to a method for producing such.
